6.5 Carcano upgrade

I am trying to scope a 6.5 Carcano. First attempt was using a recomended Savage mount. Not centered enough; 2nd attempt is using a modified AK47 side mount and low profile picatinny rail. Too high. I am wondering if a "Flip Away" ring set can be adapted? Anyone have any input?
