Black Hills 6.5 Grendel 123gr SMK ammo announced at the Shot Show is due in stores in March 07.

Wolf 6.5 Grendel ammo has just arrived at port in the US.

I'd be very curious for a range report from a Grendel owner as soon as it hits shooter's hands.... My experiences with other Prvi products has been less than stellar, and this ammo is going to go a long way towards determining if one of my four stripped lowers becomes a 6.5 Grendel rifle this spring - or not.

have you or anyone else tried the wolf ammo? I have not had good experiences with the steel cased stuff... ruptured cases in 45acp, broken extractors in AR's. I know that this stuff is brass, but I just have a bad taste in my mouth so to speak.

The Black Hills offerings should be great for the caliber though, as they are known for making high quality ammo at a reasonable price.

P.S. The upper and goodies look awesome. Thanks.

Les Baer is producing an AR 6.5 Grendel in a M4 and Varmint cofiguration. Baer and Jeff Hoffman at Black Hills worked together and developed 3 custom factory loads. Baer's offerings come with a 1/2 MOA guarantee.

After fondling and breaking down both rifles......I'm going to buy the Varmint version. Wow....are these rifles machined well.

I've placed an order for 8 boxes but havn't tried it yet. The Wolf stuff will be general purpose fun ammo. Hopefully the brass will give good reloads.

Yes, I've not heard the best about Wolf's lower quality steel cased ammo. On the Wolf Gold I have heard generally good comments.

Guys,

After a lot of prodding over the last year from Grendel shooters to re-introduce the JLK 6.5mm 130 grain VLD bullet that Jimmy Knox made a few years back, I have finally had the time to do so.

Jimmy only made one run of this bullet a few months before he decided to hang it up and stop making bullets in mid '04. The few lucky Grendel shooters who got bullets from this run went absolutely NUTS over them. One guy did a write-up article that is posted on 6mmBR.com.

Specs and pricing for the JLK 6.5mm 130 grain VLD are on the JLK Bullets website at: http://www.swampworks.com

Bullets are in stock and ready to ship at this time.

Thanks for indulging this opportunity for a shameless plug... :D

Best to all,
Swampy

Great news

I was going to build up a .308 rifle, custom stock and scope. About 1500.00 Then I came across Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel on the web. for 759.00. I can buy an upper for my Bushmaster and have a great platform for a game cartridge. This bullet is going to take off after all the hoopla about the 6.8 dies off. The 6.8 is good to 200 yds, but the Grendel is good for everything. Are there any owners of this upper, as I would love some feedback on this.

Remember guys...

Wolf gold is not steel cased...its Prvi Partizan, brass and boxer primed...therefore you get to shoot it then reload it to your own recipie. :)

Alexander Arms has received 180,000 rounds of 6.5 Grendel Wolf Gold ammunition. Other retailers should be getting their share of the initial production run of 10 million rounds as well.

Wolf will also be introducing steel cased 6.5 Grendel ammo 2nd Quarter 2007. The steel cased stuff should be much cheaper than the $10.99 a box Wolf Gold stuff (Cabela's price).

Can 6.5 Grendel brass be formed from anything more Common? My not be worth it if the Wolf ammo turns out to be OK but I remain concerned about proprietary calibers. The concern goes down If I can make my own brass.

Bigfoot.
That tis the kind of info I was looking for. Since it can be formed from 7.62X39 I'm willing to consider. No into the research mode to find out what dies and the like and how much trouble.

Dies for the 6.5 Grendel by Lee, Forster, and Redding. The Redding ones just started shipping I believe. More info at the 65grendel.com forums under reloading.

I think you can use 220 Russian or 6mm PPC as well as the 7.62x39 to fireform.

At the risk of totally hijacking this thread - where can a poor AR builder get stripped 6.5 Grendel barrels?

If you are talking about AR15 barrel,

Competition Shooting Sports (CSS) sells AR15 bolt and barrel combos.

Satern manufacturing sells barrels.

There are others as well but I don't remember off hand...best to go search at www.65grendel.com/forum for "barrel" to find others.

I forget who are doing the Encore, Contender, and bolt action barrels. But the info should be in the "bolt action" and "pistol" threads at 65grendle.com.

Wolf is introducing it in a steel version?!

Wow, the caliber might take off after all. All that is left now is enough rifles that use the round.

Wolf Ammo: I am only aware of Cabela's and Alexander Arms so far.

Most likely Midway as they have carried the 6.5 Grendel AA ammo - no listing yet for the Wolf stuff there.

Finally!
I've been holding back on this caliber till I heard form Wolf.

Once the steel cased stuff hits the pavement, I'm all in :D
