How to check accuracy of demonstration?

Greetings all,
I too was flipping channels yesterday evening when I caught the promo for 60 minutes article. So I popped in a tape and recorded the section.
Of course, I came away with many of the same feelings already posted but I had another thought.

How can we request to see the "transcript" of the actual shooting demonstration or the methodology of the demonstration?
Caliber rifle (run opposite .50 BMG)
Bullet types (caliber, weight, construction (HP, FMJ, other))
Powder used (or brand if not reloads)
Range to targets?
Other information?

If the test was run above boards and we are comparing Armour Piercing to Armour Piercing and not AP to HP then the results should be easily reproduced (i.e. that the "police rifle" would not penetrate the steel plate but the "scary" .50 BMG would.

However, I have my concerns that we did not see an apples to apples comparison. This would not be the first time, remember CNN? I reviewed last nights CBS tape and the smaller caliber rifle rounds did not even seem to put a dent in the steel plating (which I would expect they would) even if using a FMJ.

My reasoning is this:
I believe that if we were seeing the .50 BMG with AP bullet pitted against a .308 with AP bullet they would both penetrate the steel plate out to 100-200 yds.

And yes, you can purchase AP rounds in .30 caliber (pulled of course).

How would we go about requesting this information?

You know in scientific papers this information is provided in a methodology section so that anyone with the wherewithall could and should duplicate the results. That is the way science is supposed to work.

Just a thought.

"Anything you need to run a small guerrilla army, you can buy here in America," says Krasniqi. "You have all the guns you need here to fight a war. M-16s. That's what the U.S. soldiers carry in Iraq. All the rifles which U.S. soldiers use in every war, you can buy them in a gun store or a gun show."

Oh, really? Where do I get my M-16?

Was he surprised at how easy it was to get it? "Not just me. Most of non-Americans were surprised at how easy it is to get a gun in heartland America," says Krasniqi. "Most of the dealers in Montana and Wyoming don’t even ask you a question. It’s just like a grocery store."

Really? I would bet every gun I own that every dealer in MT and WY does make you fill out that darned yellow sheet and runs the instant background check.

"Small arms are the No. 1 weapon for terrorists," says Vince.
Never mind the IEDs and the explosives strapped to people's chests...

"On the newsreels about Iraq and Afghanistan, you always see the insurgents standing there with their shoulder-held rocket launchers. But in fact, that is one round, where an assault weapon can be repeatedly fired – as many rounds as you have. It’s a much better tactical weapon."

Like the AK-47s they buy here? Oh, no, wait. AKs are rare and expensive here, but plentiful and cheap there.

Ever get the sense that black is white and up is down?

How would Krasniqi describe the gun laws in this country? "More liberal than the wildest European imagination," says Krasniqi. "You can imagine them being liberal, and they are more liberal than that."

God Bless America!
