“Don't take it personally as certainly none was intended. I would have put forth the same commentary to any contributor. We are happy to have you here and welcome your input, right or wrong.”
Thanks DAdams, I really appreciate this.
““It’s OK to shot +P in your gun even if it is not stamped on the barrel”. Please post a link that points the way to the S&W website where this is stated.”
I’ve just reported what other folks have experienced. If they reported lies, I report lies. But if they reported the truth, I report the truth.
“I wonder if perhaps S&W was speaking of early x42-1s which WERE +P rated, but were not stamped as such on the barrel.”
Yes, this is an example. So it is a generic warning not a general warning.
Since they are generic, most ammo warnings didn’t cover all the real world cases. They do negatively aswer the question “Can I shot .38 Super Auto +P in a 9mm Steyr pistol?”. But also our common sense is certainly going to aswer NO to the same question.
To all appearances they (the warnings) also negatively answers the question “Can I shot 9mm +P in a CZ 75 P-01 since it doesn’t have the +P mark on it?”. But this pistol was able to shot 30000 +P rounds during NATO tests without any problem (minimum request was 15000)…
So, where is the truth?
“Better yet I would like to see a statement of fact veryifing it (the approved use of non-rated ammunition) published by an Officer of said Corporation or their Legal Department.”
Well, this is certainly hard to obtain…
“5-Shots, why don't you start a related thread in a General Handgun Area or Handguns, Revolvers on THR, I would like to see the responses as I have heard that there are revolvers that can tolerate a limited diet of "non-rated" ammunition.”
You can do it yourself if you are really interested. I’ve already do my searches.
Some more considerations:
1)Many folks choose to practice with standard loads and carry (carry, not shot as I said in my original statement) +P rounds in their (supposed) not +P rated snubs. If a (supposed) not +P rated snub is not able to fire five +P rounds when needed, well don’t put 50 Buffalo Bore max SAAMI out of it at the range because that it can be really dangeruos!
2)Many folks choose to practice most of the time with standard loads with their (supposed) not +P snubs and they put only a couple of cylinder each range session using their +P carry loads just to stay proficient. That sounds reasonable to me if they deeply inspect the gun before and after every range session and/or if they send their snub back to the factory periodically for a complete ceckup.
3)The other folks use only standard loads out their (supposed) not +P rated snubs. Very good choice but don’t forget to inspect your gun if you shot a lot.
4)Police agents carried +P or +P+ loads on their revolvers well before we knew that +P or +P+ rated ammunitions/revolvers exist with no ill effects than those on bad guys.
5)If you are sure that your (supposed) +P rated snubs are that safe go to this site (TFL):
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=246739. Anyway, not a catastrophic failure.
DAdams, I don’t really want to “win” that thread with you. We are not in a court. I’m just defending my good reputation in a public forum.
Best regards, 5-SHOTS.
