I got a 642 a few months ago and have been happily carrying in my front pocket in a Desantis pocket holster...now summer in the North East is coming.I swaet like a banshie, and was wondering if it will have any effect on the gun's finish.

Always wipe down an carry gun after carrying. Revolvers are great in this regard because they are so easy to unload and reload. If you do this you should have no problems.

Not probable - the cylinder is stainless and the frame is aluminum. Plus, most of us don't sweat that much on the front of our thighs (YMMV). You are likely to be fine.

I live in South Florida and sweat like the preverbal pig. I carried my 642 IWB under a T-shirt for about three years (I know I am in the small minority that finds the 642 just a bit heavy for pocket carry). The bad news is that it did suffer extensive corrosion under the grip panels. The corrosion was mostly to the left side (closes to my body) and only visible with the grips removed. The good news is that since 1999 I’ve carried a 342 (same frame material) in my front pocket with zero problems. I doubt that you will have any problems (unless you carry in the Atlantic often).

It's quite possible for stainless and aluminum to both rust/corrode, fairly easily when exposed to the damp environment of a pocket. Especially, when that dampness is from sweat, which with a high salt content is highly corrosive.

As others have suggested, wiping the gun down daily with a silicone cloth will help quite a bit. If it becomes a serious problem a Marine Tuff-Cloth will help prevent the rust even more.

Definitely true, but unless the OP is on a high-salt diet and sweats so much that the thighs of his pants are damp, he probably doesn't have to wipe the gun down very often. It would be prudent to keep an eye on the gun (even checking under the grips, as one poster suggests), but I wouldn't assume that it's going to be a problem without seeing what happens in his individual circumstances.

Ezzox is the best commonly available corrosion protection you will find. Breakfree is second best but doesn't stay on the surface as well.
