642 in a pocket?

I'm thinking of getting a 642 for pocket carry. I think my G19 is a little too large for carrying on my hip sometimes. This way, I'd have options on how I want to carry.

Does it really disappear in a front pocket? Anyone have any pictures of someone carrying in a pocket holster?

Yes, it really does disappear. Although the cylinder is thicker than something like a G26, most of the 642 is thinner, and the fact that almost all edges are rounded to one extent or another helps - no sharp outlines to see.

Another plus, for me, is that I can get a good firing grip while the gun is in the pocket. I have not found a semiauto that worked that way for me. YMMV.

Get a good pocket holster. I'm using a Nemesis. The Mika holsters are very well thought of, too, and there are lots of other good ones.

Takes a little larger pocket than your Rustlers, but if you pick your pants (carpenter's jeans or dockers for a little more dress), they are quite pocketable and light enough to be ignored all day. I mean, it's no Ruger LCP, but it can work and .38 special trumps .380 ACP in penetration.

I don't know about the 642 but I find the 640 to be a tad on the heavy side. That can lead to unpleasant surprises. I'm pretty much a belt and holster sort of guy.

Absolutely you can pocket carry a 642. I do it everyday.

Bought a cheap uncle mike's (size 2?) pocket holster while I waited (and waited...and waited) for my Mika's to be delivered. Honestly, I like the Uncle Mike's better. It's not as bulky.

I slip it in my BACK pocket though. I find it more comfortable. I'm an un-ticked polo shirt kind of guy, so I never have an issue with concealment. When I do front pocket carry, I can go tucked.

Pretty much everyday in either a Mika round-cut, Mika square-cut, or Uncle Mike's - depending on the pocket shape and size.

For pocket carry, my choice is usually a 642 Airweight in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster in my right front pocket and a couple HKS speedloaders in the left. My other option is a Glock 26 in the right hip pocket. Of the two, I prefer the revolver, especially when I'm informally dressed during the summer. In cooler weather, I'm as likely to carry the semi.

I can carry the 642 in Mika's pocket holsters in all of my pants' front pockets or, in probably 75% of them, even the L-frame 296 takes frequent rides, too.

Both make for a great grip grab in-pocket. Of course, letting those GA Arms Speer 200gr Gold Dots fly with that boot grip is even more memorable than the Remi +P 158gr LHPSWCs from the 642.

YMMV. It'll depend on your body type and choice of pants. If you're a beanpole and/or want to carry it in relatively tight pants with low-cut jean-style pocket openings (versus the vertical slash style of dress pants), it'll be pretty obvious.

It works for me in levi jeans...until you sit down. Then, it prints and becomes difficult to get to. Better in a holster on the belt or IWB with a shirt over top. MHO.

The 637, 638, and 638 all do very well for pocket carry. My 638 in its mika holster, just looks like a normal stuffed pocket. No one really pays attention to other folks pockets. However, make sure you've got really deep ones, or a shirt that can hide the back of your revolver. I've honestly thought about trying to make a grip that looks like the end of a wallet or checkbook, or even a cell phone. Pocket carry seems to be easier on my belt than a IWB Makarov. But thats nearly 10 oz of difference. Make sure you have a good belt, and that will help a lot. I'm fond of the wilderness belts/ instructors style belts. They fit your size more minutely than a notched belt can.

I agree with others who say that it all depends on your size, build, and choice of pants. I am 6' tall, 175 lbs., and pretty slim. I hate bulky or baggy clothes, even in cold weather. When not at work, I wear cargo shorts or low-rise boot-cut jeans. I can and do carry my 642 in an Uncle Mikes holster in my right front pocket most days. Although the shape is broken up well and only a trained eye could tell what's in there, it does buldge quite a bit. If I were larger or wore big baggy pants, it wouldn't be a problem at all. Skinny guy who wears slim-fit clothes? Not very comfortable in the pocket, but better than no gun at all. Bigger guy who has some room? No problem.

I used the UMs for a while, but they really didn't want to stay in the pocket on a draw, so I went to the Nemesis and have been quite happy. I put a piece of duct tape over the open muzzle to keep lint out (well, to reduce it...)

rdrancher- What are the grips on your gun? They look interestingly different.

Check out those Columbia brand shorts!! I have a pair and they are great. The zipper keeps the pocket closed but quick pull of the string and out comes your.. whatever's in your pocket

Now there is a man who knows his carry pants. :D

For those fixated on losing their roscoe to the floor while in the seated position, then the Columbia Lander series is for you. They are available in both shorts and slacks. Still wish they would do them in navy too.

No elastic in the waistband not a cargo, but there is a nice flashlight or folding knife pocket.
