One of the guns that I shot at the indoor range today was my new 642. I bought it about a month ago but hadn't shot it yet. For today it was wearing Hogue Monogrips.

I shot S&B 158 grain FMJ at ten yards. I figured ten yards to be the outside range for which this gun would be used in self-defense. I do not plan to use +P ammo. The gun was just a bit snappy but nothing that I found to be uncomfortable. The muzzle rise was greater than my Model 13 with the same ammo, but again not too bad. At first I found the gun to shoot a little low, but as I got used to the trigger it shot pretty much point of aim, maybe a bit to the left, but that was probably me. I was shooting at an eight inch target and at ten yards and I could keep everything within. Below is fifteen rounds that I shot into five inches.

I think this is a good start. I will try +P my next time, but for now I'm happy. I hope to be able to get that group down to three inches and maybe five inches out at 15 yards rather than ten. Remarkably, for today the gun outshot my DAO Model 13-3, but I think overall the 13-3 has greater potential. Neither gun was shot a lot, maybe 50 rounds each. I had a number of guns to check out today so time was limited.

I think you can count me among the 642 fans.

Have you dry fired at all? Or was that your 1st time? How was the trigger? I hear if you dry fire it a bunch with snap caps it helps. A 642 with CT is my next gun. I saw one yesterday at the gun show for $ 529 with the laser. By far the best price I have seen..... but I had to buy my wife a P22 first. Well worth it. I am up next, lol. I cannot wait. Good shooting.

I just took my 442 out for it's maiden voyage and I'm suprised you noticed any muzzle rise at all. Mine seemed to push directly back while employing a high grip.

My trigger came stock pretty nice bps. Very smooth but heavy and long. Perfect for a pocket rocket.

I had dry fired the gun a good bit. I shoot DAO guns, both semi-autos and revolvers, frequently. I prefer them as self-defense guns.

The muzzle rise wasn't bad at all, but there was some. It was a lot less than I expected. I don't see it as delaying follow-up shots to any significant degree. I suppose that to a certain degree it depends upon what round you are shooting. I've always heard that S&B tend to be a bit hotter than other similar rounds. Then again, I've also heard the opposite.

The one thing that did strike me was how quickly five rounds can go.
