It isn't in "Legal."

As for the politics... well, the last time I checked, it isn't a bunch of truckdrivers, farmers, accountants, or business owners that have the power to pass laws that directly affect the RKBA.

That's right. Its Politicians.

If we limit the fight for the RKBA to everything that DOESN'T discuss those that actually are passing the legislation we oppose, it is akin to a blind person getting fitted for a hearing aid.

There is no assault weapon ban proposed at this time. Therefore a bunch of Congressment sending a letter to the AG opposing an assault weapons ban is nothing but political grandstanding. This thread should have been closed pages ago.

Are you suggesting that we should relax until we are starting at one?

I contend that we aren't facing an AWB exactly BECAUSE of our diligence. I seem to remember all the posters on here saying similar things up to November.

At this time, there IS discussion of AWB's. It came from the AG, and it resurfaces regularly in the media. Its been discussed in the media THIS WEEK.

At this time, the AG flew a trial baloon out there and tested the way the winds blow.

They are blowing our way for the moment-- but that can change easily.

I believe that is the consensus opinion.

Which opinion is the consensus?

...that we should relax until we are starting at one?

Or

...that we aren't facing an AWB exactly BECAUSE of our diligence.

If the latter, I am obviously in agreement, and it essentially reinforces this thread.

If the former, our ranks are filled by short-sighted, reactionary (as opposed to proactive), and foolish people.

If you don't think that we need to keep our elected officials' feet to the fire, check the date on this....

I havent been able to access the letter or who signed it. Someone posted the letter so that is read and someone else posted the link on who signed but I couldnt get to it it said file was damaged. Anyways all I wanted to know did Stephanie Herseth (D) from S.Dak. sign the letter. She did have pretty good standings with the NRA. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe someone could post the list of signatures on here!

A letter from 65 DEMOCRATIC Congressman sends a very strong message to Holder, Obama and Pelosi that they likely don't have the votes in the House of Representatives to pass a reauthorization of the "assault weapons" ban.

Hopefully this will dispel people from automatically associating "Democrat" with "gun hater".

The simple fact of the matter is that B Hussein Obama and Eric Holder as well as senior Democrats in both the House and the Senate would disarm us in a second if they thought they could get away with it. Plus, if you read the party platform, they still seek to separate hunters and sportsmen from other gun owners in a classic divide and conquer strategy. The Democratic Party establishment is no friend of gun owners, even if a few minor players are breaking ranks.

If a moderator comes by, I hope they will comment on why a strictly political thread such as this one is allowed to stay open. Politics are OT here. Since there is no pending AWB, then discussions like this have been closed in other threads. Opposing an AWB that does not exist is simply political grandstanding, and nothing more. Also, we have now degenerated into using calling Obama by his middle name, Hussein, which is simply more testament to the fact that this thread is about politics.

I support what those Democrats have done, but there really is no forum here for political grandstanding threads.

Oh, they're still gun haters. They're just in fear for their jobs. But Obama could alleviate their fears by sending them a reassurance letter that "ACORN's gotcha covered in 2010 ;)"

My perspective as a Mod is that it started out as an interesting news story about a positive response from a group of elected officials supporting our side, but does seem to be evolving towards a political discussion.

Probably best if folks who want to discuss how to make this an element in the RKBA cause head on over to the thread in Activism Discussion taking place on it. http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=436560
