In a shorter barrel with SD more in mind, I'd take the 686+.

Excellent observation. SD is certainly a prime consideration for choosing the 686P. It certainly was in my case, as was getting the 2.5" barrel.

In any case, this is such a fine all around handgun, whichever platform you pick, its going to be a winner, IMO.

Well, no, I think you were trying to make the point that if you couldn't kill what you were shooting at with six rounds (non-Plus Model 686), what use would there be for a seventh round (Model 686 Plus). To which I made the point that the same rationale would seem to apply for a six round capacity revolver as compared to a five round capacity revolver, again, to follow your "logic". And so on, ad infinitum, I suppose. :what:

Therefore, I'll say adding a 3" 686 without the lock would mean it would be another six shooter."

My Model 686-5 Plus does not have the lock.

Well there you go...

Get a 686-5 plus and you get seven without the lock!

That's a good point. In general folks who carry a revolver seem to be less concerned with capacity, and more with shot placement, and that's how it should be as far as I'm concerned.
.....
The above statement is not meant to imply that revolver shooters are better shots than people who carry a semiauto, nor that people who carry a semi are all just using spray and pray as their defensive tactic.

Yes, we are. [emoji38] Mebbe not, but I've seen a lot of it. [emoji15]

I wouldn't say the issue is settled - nothing ever is among gun enthusiasts - but today I found a gently used and reasonably priced 6-inch 686-4 and it followed me home. It saved me having to put up with the infernal lock and in a gun that size I don't really care one way or the other about the extra round, as it isn't likely to see a holster anyway.

Nice! A fine choice. Let us know how she shoots.
