I like 4" 586s and 686s, but can`t stand the orange/red front RAMPED sight! Do they make a 686 with a patridge style front sight, (Like the "classic" series 29s/629s) ? Thanks!

Check with Smith & Wesson's Customer Service Department. I beleieve they can install any front sight blade you want.l

I have a 6" 686-4 PP with the factory Patridge front sight. The 2005 S&W catalog still shows them offered (as 686-6 PP).

How difficult is it to install a Patridge front sight on a 686-6 with the red thingy front sight?

You can buy the partridge sights from S&W, they come in a pack of 3, all different heights. You need a drift pin to push out the retaining pin, slide out the old sight, slide in the partridge sight of whatever height you desire, re-insert retaining pin.

I believe the 3-pack of partridge sights goes for $35.00...

Just called S&W and spoke to a pistol tech. He said you can do it yourself fairly easily. First knock out the roll pin holding the old sight in place, and fling the sight into the garbage.... Then place the new sight (part #038370000) into place, and drill it out through the roll pin hole, with a #54 drill bit. Drive the roll pin back through the new sight, and whalla!

Just ordered the replacement Patridge front sight for my 686-6. Don't need the 3-pack, the guy I spoke to at S&W said that's for the 629. There's only one sight for the 686's, and it cost about $12.00 shipped. Thanks, fellas. :)

I swapped out mine for a nice gold bead one made by SDM....I like it a lot. They also make a fiber optic version.
