.68cal Plastic Riot Controll Rounds

A long time ago I saw a .68 cal co2 pistol being sold with solid plastic balls instead of paint balls for use as a less leathal weapon.

This was pre peperballs, the add I saw showed a soda can with a huge hole blown through it.

Anyone Know anything about this? It might have been offered in the sharper image catalouge.

Sounds like an awful idea. Hit some guy in the face with the thing and you've maimed him or blinded him. Then you are owned by him.

Sounds more like a 'only slightly less than lethal' force option for where firearms are disallowed.

only slightly less than lethal was my understanding of it as well if you put it in there face, however rubber bullets have the same problem and they work just fine when you use them on a torso.

Bad idea. A girl in Boston was shot in the face with a pepper ball and it killed her.

The girl in Boston wasn't hit with a pepperball. If I recall correctly, it was a shell that contained bismuth in the front of it (heavier than lead?) and then in the back had a payload of pepper or dye or whatever else it can carry. This is far more extreme and dangerous than a pepperball.

They sound on face value like a good idea if one was faced with an home invasion by more than one offender and firearms were not available for example, however they do not sound like a option to be used low down on the scale of force or instead of firearms.

Remember that police applications of less-lethal weaponry is always backed-up by other LEO(s) with functioning firearms.

This sounds like a terrible idea for personal use.

How much ft/lbs force can be generated by CO2 pistol on a .68 (12ga) plastic bullet? I bb gun can shoot holes in a coke can but would only bounce off-of my jacket.

The girl in Boston was shot by a beanbag or some other "less lethal" round from a shotgun, it was not a pepperball. A pepperball is physically the same as a paintball with a different filling. A pepperball can blind, its damn near impossible to get killed by one.
