I stumbled across a drop-dead Savage 12 stainless today, used, chambered for 6mm Norma BR. I've heard this is a pretty nice round but factory loads all seem to come from Lapua and run $1.70+ for every trigger pull.

Is this one those cartridges that's better suited to hand loaders?

It is best to reload for it, but one of the finest 600 yard or less rounds ever invented. It really shines from 100-300 meter competition.

I have one, and it is my most accurate rifle or round, no contest. It is a handloader's cartridge for sure.

I've never seen any factory, although I know about Lapua's offering.

Lapua brass is what I use in mine, and Berger 80 grain bullets. Extremely accurate, even in my hands.

It really likes Varget, too.

I have one, best for a reloader for sure. However, it's almost worth it in a way to buy the loaded ammo

As it gives you something to shoot that's already loaded; and cases to reload afterwards if you reload. Or sell the once fired cases to offset the cost.....

I have seen the ammo on sale from time to time.
