I bought a rifle in 6mm BR. It is on a Savage 110 action and has a Leupold 12X scope on it, It also has a 28" stainless barrel. The barrel is stamped 6 BR N (8). The trigger is set to 2.2lbs
I assume the 8 stands for 8 twist. No other stamping. The barrel looks great inside. It has the blk synthetic stock.
Any Idea on who's the maker of this barrel by the way it is stamped. It came with the Redding custom 3 die set and 23 rounds loaded and 20 cases. I pulled one of the rounds and found it was a 80gn Nosler BT and what appears to be 30.1 gn Varget powder
This caliber is new to me.
The guy that put this together wanted a repeater and got frustrated because it wouldn't feed. This is a large Savage action. I bought it and will make it a single shot, no problem. I already found the 6 BR guide and am reading up on this cartridge.
Any other info will be helpful and appreciated.
thanks
I don't think I got hurt for $350.00

Just got back from the range. 100 yard. threw the 1st round, light trigger caught me off guard, next 4 ok . the hole on right edge was already there.
this was with the loaded rounds that came with rifle. Think I will get used to shooting this

What a great buy! I had one made 2 years ago. I kind of wanted a repeater, but my smith said that chambering probably would be a problem. My barrel is a heavy Hart 28" with a 12" twist. It was built on a Kelby action set in an inexpensive Boyds laminated stock (not an F Class) with a Jewell trigger set at 18 oz. I topped it off with a Sightron Slll 8-32 power scope.

I picked a load from the 6MM BR website for starters to break in the barrel. I used 30.5 gr of Varget and played just a bit with the seating depth. On my shots 10,11, and 12, I shot a .061 group. I was in awe. I was shooting 80 gr Berger FB varmint match heads and ended up seating them .001 off the lands. I never had a scope that good before nor with that much magnification. What a difference it makes. I have shot a lot of great groups in my life, but nothing like that.

I haven't shot it since, due to a couple of surgeries, but now that I am back to normal, if there is such a thing, your post has made me anxious to get back at it.

To answer your question about the barrel, I'd bet it was definitely a custom. I have never seen a custom with the barrel maker stamped on it. the ones that I have show the caliber, twist and the smiths name. Patrick Mcmanus says "Never sniff a gift fish" Seems appropriate in your case.

It would be interesting to know what grain bullet shoots best for you. My guess would be 95 or heavier with an 8" twist. I guess one doesn't know until you play with it. By the looks of your target, there is a lot of potential there for you. I wish you the best and keep us posted on what load you come up with. If no one else posts here, PM me. It's a great caliber. Have fun. It's nice to play with an accurate rifle.

Allen,You got one hell of a deal on that rifle. You couldn't buy a factory action for what you paid for the whole rifle.
As far as the barrel mfg,you might take the bolt out of the action and look at the chamber end of the barrel with a pen light. Most custom barrels are marked on the chamber end by the mfg's.

A thoughtful gunsmith, will cut the rear of the barrel off and make a disc or coin of the makers info as a record for the owner....

You may or may not be able to see anything at the chamber end.

Chances are, if someone took the time to build a 6BR, they prob used a decent barrel. Let the groups speak for the quality of the barrel.

It's a Savage, anyone with a barrel nut wrench and a set of Go/No-Go gauges can build it in their home shop in about 15 minutes. I build them all the time, and their are several good pre-fit barrel makers that offer them ready to install in 6BR.

Was in the city yesterday and found 300 Lapua cases new in the box along with 200 Lapua 105 gn Scenar and 100 Berger 65 gn Match grade. So I guess I'm ready to start loading. Will see how it goes.
