I read where a Sheriffs department tested a Kel-Tec P-11, and fired over 7,000 rounds of +P+ through it without any problems. Mine is still like new after about 500 rounds, but 7,000 is really something for a light gun like the P-11.

I'd imagine the gun could easilly last through that many rounds assuming you didn't abuse it while carrying. Solid gun. The major question is one of durability under daily carry and use rather than endurance under range conditions.

Badger makes a good point. There is difference in endurance and daily.

That said my P-11 has gone way over 7K rds and so far has been flawless and reliable with daily carry.
Mine had been a "tough little fella".

I would not presume to infer that anyone on this thread was exaggerating the durability of their P-11.....

BUT

Mine physically b-r-o-k-e three, count 'em, THREE times with only about 1200 rounds, only 100 or so of which were +Ps.

FWIW, the service life of the M-9 pistol is considered to be 5,000 rds. Of course, that's with M882 ball, which is +P+ in SAAMI terms.

Of course, some individual guns last longer than others. Kel-Tec completely replaced my P-11 after its third trip to the factory, but it's now trading stock, as far as I'm concerned.

With my luck, the person who buys it will shoot it for 7,000+ rounds with no visible wear. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

A friend of mine bought a new Subaru Legacy that puked the motor at 56K. Doesn`t mean they`re *all* bad...

My P-11 has around 10K through it. Most of them cheap practice ammo but hundreds and hundreds of Corbons and Triton +Ps also. It`s still rock solid reliable and shoots just as good as it ever did. Lockup is tight as can be too and there`s no discernable frame wear. :) Marcus

9mm ammo is 35,000 psi
9mm+P ammo is 38,500 psi
9mm +P+ ammo is undefined, but all that I have shot is very wimpy.

If +P ammo is made by adding 3.7% extra powder, then I have fired hundreds of rounds of +P++++++++ in my Kel-Tec P11. [on the right in the picture]

Mine works just fine, but that +P++++++++++++ammo is not good for it. [on the left in the picture]

The P++++++++++ ammo is in between. [and in between in the picture too]

I hope I counted all those plusses right:)

That one on the far left reminds me of the load I used where the recipe was " I scooped up some powder and stuck a bullet in it"
Most interesting when fired in low light / dark. :)

Hypnogator, where did your P-11 break?

I have a P-11 frame that's survived countless 9mm rounds, then .40 cal. rounds with a conversion, and then .357 Sig with my subsequent purchase of that barrel from Kel Tec.

I quit counting rounds a long time ago, but it's been flawless. Since it's my carry, I examine it everytime I clean it.

If you serious about getting rid of yours, email me [email protected]

The first time, the plastic frame broke where the hammer pin was secured -- result, hammer wouldn't work.

The second time, I'm not sure what broke -- got very light strikes, would fire less than half the the time. Not hard primers, either -- used both reloads and several brands of commercial rounds.

The last time, the plastic frame broke where the aluminum frame was mounted -- pistol jammed half-open. Was able to clear it, but couldn't disassemble it.

I'm just too skeptical of this pistol's durability to trust it as a serious defensive weapon. If I had to rely on mine, I'd carry it a lot, but not shoot it more than the bare minimum to maintain proficiency with it.

IMHO, the P-11 is too big to be a pocket piece (YMMV), and if I'm going to carry a holster weapon, my Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro gives me a lot more firepower with a much better trigger pull.
