Ordering a 1000 rounds of Wolf 7.62 x 39. Is there any particular reason to go with one bullet type over the other? Is it a matter of what shoots best or are there factors to consider? Is the HP supposed to help maintain trajectory or what?

Also, $109 shipped isn't a bad price is it?

Thanks

I buy 7.62x39 wolf locally for $44.95 in 500 rd. metal ammo cans. Same price for FMJ or HP. I get the HPs because they are supposed to be more accurate and some ranges don't like FMJ.

I go to the retail store. Same price as ordering online.
Cheaper Than DIrt

I buy and shoot both. I've used my AK for hunting before and in my state we are not allowed to use FMJ for hunting, so the HP comes in handy for that.

As for $109 for 1,000 rounds. That's not bad, but you can do better. I've ordered Wolf 7.62x39 from Cabelas.com before and the price was $87 shipped. You have to get the stuff without any "free" ammo cans or storage boxes. They add on like a $10 surcharge to get those free things.

The 7.62x39 that I've bought recently has been JHP. My AK is a SHTF rifle, so I wanted better terminal ballistics. The JHPs may not expand, but they do deform somewhat, inducing tumbling. The JHPs didn't cost any more than the FMJ, so it's not like I'm out of pocket any more than with ball.

From what I have read steel jacketed hollow points do not expand and have caused feeding problems in some rifles. The most I have ever paid for 1000rds of Wolf is $70.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I need to shop around a little more since I haven't found any for under $100 (including tax and/or shipping).

If you are interested in Wolf, I believe that http://centerfiresystems.com in Versailles, Ky has a price that is hard to beat. IIRC, I believe it was $79.97 for 1000 rounds of Wolf JHP.

Not sure about shipping since I am local and pick it up there.

I would've ordered from MidwayUSA but they don't ship certain items to IL. I ended up ordering from Outdoormarksman; don't really mind because I've ordered from them before.

I ordered the 7.62x39 in a 500 round 1/2 case because I wasn't totally sure how the ammo would fire. It's the Wolf 122 grain FMJ stuff.
