You have frequently made some of the more astute comments I've read on any of several gun websites, whether dealing with semi-auto rifle knowledge or regarding ammo and self-defense etc.
Guys with your level of real-world experience with guns help those with much less exposure see the much big picture better. Just a very late-bloomer here.

The more level-headed types among you forecast last winter, taking into account not just simple 'sheep herd' emotional but job market and Washington political factors (re-election: the major motivation for anything), that this buying frenzy would cool off after several months.

Most people could only believe the worst of the rumours circulated at every gun shop and show.

I think this marks a major break in the price gouging. I'm hoping that things will break soon and we'll be back to buying 1000 rounds for under $175.

I would not hold your breath waiting for that happen. Many dealers are not profiteering, of course they are the ones that don't have anything. AIM is in that group! $175 per 1000 is significantly below the wholesale cost of the ammo. Its certainly going to take Wolf, etc to make huge wholesale price cuts before that can happen. I think AIM, Palmetto, etc have the same margins now they had before. The good sign is that Guns are certainly going down. The bad sign is that AMMO rarely does, I'm sure people can remember when Cases went from $69 to $89 and a group said they just wait until they fell to $69 again. I just got in a bunch of backorder cases from SG for $212, they lost money on them b/c they offered for backorder. They have fixed their prices to reflect their new cost of ammo.

I don't see it coming back to 175/case but it might come down some from where it is right now. I have plenty so I don't have to worry about anything right now.

Just spoke with Palmetto State Armory, very friendly and quick to ensure that my order was processed and shipped. With bricks selling for $480 at my local gun shows, I'm very tempted to by a handful from Palmetto and sell them for $400 at the show. Something to think on...
