Does anyone know where you can get 7.62x39 (soviet) rounds? Has anyone noticed that they have disappeared from the shelves? Let me know if there is a place to get some?

I also noticed .45ACP is in short supply...

I wonder why :scrutiny:

I called my local store that usually supplies me with gun related items a few days ago & a guy told me that a shipment would arrive Friday. Today is Friday & I called to make sure it was there before I drove all the way over there. The man I spoke to told me that because of the situation in Iraq, 7.62x39 ammo is near impossible to get & that the order wouldn't arrive today and that he had no idea when a new shipment would:banghead: :( :banghead: . He also told me that nobody else had it including Walmart. Because of my paranoid nature, I called Wally world & they told me that they DID have some in stock. When I leave work today that will be one of my stops on the way home. As it is I'm terribly low right now.

If the zombie hordes show up, I'm in trouble:D :neener: :D .

My VEPR is very lonely. I haven't been able to find a decent amount of Wolf anywhere for a few months now.

Do a search, we've talked about the 7.62x39 shortage in about twenty different threads now.

In Houston area, the gun shows have had it. Price is higher, but it is there. I have seen some at Academy and other places as well.

7.62x39 availability - Try Cabelas, I just got 1000 rds. last week. Order was placed on back order, BUT I got it in 10 days. About $140.00.

Maybe you guys do talk about it alot. I don't look that much in the Rifle country section...

I guess having ammo isn't strategies and tactics....

It's interesting, Sportsmans Guide has some Wolf that it shows in stock. However, the Wolf in the can was on backorder, showed due in May 15. Looked at it last night, now showed due in July!

I got those ammo webpage links from an email flyer that was sent to me yesterday. No idea how long they'll have it, though. I'm tempted on buying 1000 just to have, but I still have 1500 at the house and Missashot and I probably won't be hitting the outdoor range for another few months with the warm weather......motorcycle riding time! :D

Wal Mart sells the brass cased Winchester for about $10 per 20 round box. I bought a bunch of this one time when nothing else was around but it is about 3x the cost of Wolf or Silver Bear. Unless you want the brass to reload, I would look somewere else.

I received 500 rounds of Wolf HP from Cheaper Than Dirt on Thursday. They don't have truckloads of it, but they do have some. It isn't as cheap as I purchased 500 rounds locally 6 months ago, but that's supply and demand at work.

I am convinced the present shortage has more to do with panic-buying. Guys are afraid that they'll never see it again, so every chance they get, they are buying 2-3000 round lots of it. Everybody just needs to calm down a bit.

Some of us have been shooting long enough to remember the Great Chinese
Ammo dry-up under clinton and how the only thing fresh to shoot cost
3 times as much....kind of like now.

The Russian trickle could be completely shut off by either side --a new
law (or executive order from Hillary in 2008), or the Russians siding with
a certain middle east country could bring the Wolf and Bear days to a
close.

Not a bad thing, people will slow down and shoot better ;)

Yoo-hoo, out there....

HASN'T THE PENNY DROPPED YET??????

Why are you still dependent on commercial sources for ammunition?

We hear all these moans of anguish, every time some sort of "shortage" arrives. Why not DO SOMETHING about it? For the cost of a couple of cases of this mil-surp and/or second-rate crap, you could have the wherewithal to set up a handloading operation. And, for REAL independence, a few bucks more will see you set up for bullet casting, too.

A mould, some old wheelweights, a few pounds of powder and a few thousand primers, and you will be able to shoot regardless of the ammo supply situation, and yes, this includes 7.62x39 for the SKS and AK. Not only that, but the 7.62x39 runs at FULL power with cast bullets very nicely indeed, and more accurately than with the service ammo. So you need Boxer-primed brass....so what? You'd most likely lose it in the weeds before it ever wears out, meaning ten or more reloadings on a single cartridge case.

It's not difficult, it doesn't take up much room, and if you are one of those who "doesn't have TIME", I suggest you may need a new set of priorities. You won't save money, because you'll shoot more when the ammo costs less. You will expand your enjoyment of the hobby, and also your knowledge of how things work.
