I just was given a case of 1200 rds of Norinco steel cased 7.62x39 ammo. Any idea what is worth? Any comments on the quality?

Many years ago, the Chinese ammo was allows importation in 7.62 X 39 MM and was pretty good stuff. To date, I've not seen any that shot any better coming out of the old Soviety Block. It's worth what any other surplus ammo in that caliber is worth, about $150.00 a thousand. Were I you, I'd shoot it in my AK/SKS and enjoy it.

Should be copper coated and feed real nice. Clean your gun afterwards, it's corrosive.

Regards,

Dave

Does it come in Green 20 round Boxes? If so, it is steel cored and non corrosive. If it comes in two big sardine cans loaded on stripper clips, it is probably steel cored and corrosive.

I haven't seen Green Box Norinco since the early 90's. Good stuff.

Just my .02,

It came in a wooden crate that has not been opened,in fact, it still has a steel band wrapped around it. So, I don't know if its in stripper clips, boxes or what. What's ironic is that I just bought a Tanker Garand in .308 a few months ago and have been having trouble getting ammo for it. Now I have 1200 rds of 7.62x39 and I don't have anything to shoot it in! Can you believe it? Maybe God wants me to go out and buy and AK or SKS. It came from a Bro-In-Law whose father bought an SKS and all this ammo. His dad died last year and they came across this ammo. This afternoon he said he might take his Dad's SKS and if he does, I'll give him back the ammo.

It's good stuff, as good as any you can buy and getting rare. They haven't imported Chinese ammo since Klinton.
I have some Chinese 9x18 and it's non-corrosive and hot.:)

I have a bunch of Chinese & Russian steel core 7.62x39 ammo. The ranges won't let me shoot it because they say they are afraid of sparking a fire. Why do you think the steel core is better than lead?

Joe,

Has nothing to do with the core. Has everything to do with the ammo's accuracy. The Chinese stuff is some of the most accurate, if not the the most, of the 7.62 X 39 MM.

Actually, the East German steel core was the best / most accurate - easily under 3" (close to 2" on a good day) with iron sights at 100 yds out of my (and friends) SKSs. The Chinese steel core was next at around 3". The Russian stuff comes in closer to 5" out of the same guns (always a flyer or two).
