Are 7.63 Mauser cartridges able to be fired safely in a Tokarev 7.62 chamber? Also do I need a separate sizing die for a 7.62 Tokarev if I already have a 7.63 Mauser die set? They look almost exactly the same.

I have 7.63 Mauser cases for my Broomhandle and realize the same charges can't be used in the Mauser as the newer Tokarev.

close, but not quite. I think you could easily reform one brass for the other, but only if you used the correct dies for each.
The 7.63 Mause is the parent case of the 7.62 Tokarev

7.63 Mauser;
Bullet Dia. 7.86 mm (0.309 in)
Neck diameter 8.46 mm (0.333 in)
Shoulder diameter 9.60 mm (0.378 in)
Base diameter 9.86 mm (0.388 in)
Rim diameter 9.98 mm (0.393 in)
Case length 25.15 mm (0.990 in)
Overall length 34.80 mm (1.370 in)

7.62 Tokarev;
Bullet diameter 7.82 mm (0.308 in)
Neck diameter 8.49 mm (0.334 in)
Shoulder diameter 9.48 mm (0.373 in)
Base diameter 9.83 mm (0.387 in)
Rim diameter 9.95 mm (0.392 in)
Rim thickness 1.32 mm (0.052 in)
Case length 25.00 mm (0.984 in)
Overall length 35.20 mm (1.386 in

As a general rule, the Tokarev can be fired in the Mauser chamber, but not vice versa. There are exceptions to every rule. It depends on how accurate the chamber dimensions of a particular pistol are.

DWFan, your answer is incorrect. It is the other way around. The Tokarev is loaded hotter than the Mauser. It is recommended to not shoot the Tok in the Mauser. I shoot the 7.63 in my Tokarev. Hope this helps. You can use the Mauser dies to load Tok brass if you are going to shoot it in the Mauser.

Thanks. I knew that the Broomhandle wouldn't handle the hotter Tokarev ammo. I was just trying to see if I could keep from buying a sizing die. (Kind of like using the .32 auto die for the .32 S&W short.)

I guess I'll have to get a Lee die set for it.

FWIW, it might be worth calling Lee to confirm that the 7.62T and 7.63M sizing dies are different since reloading dies rarely resize back to factory dimension specs.
