Over the years I have bought boxes of misc. reloading supplies, as well as been given a bunch of stuff. Most of what I have is pretty straight forward stuff, some I just wonder about, such as 70 grain .312 copper washed [not jacketed] bullets. Anybody know or would hazard a guess what the heck these would be used for. I have about 2000 of them.

Maybe several of the .32's, like the 30 Mauser, 32 S&W Short & Long, something like that?

I'd assume they are lead bullets basically, so .312" would be the proper dia. and 70 grain would be in the low end of weight range.

My Sierra 50th anniversary handgun edition shows a 32 Auto (ACP) offering as being limited to a 71 gr FMJ in .312 diameter. So that indicates that they are possibly intended for a 32 caliber rifle, since they are spitzer boattail bullets.

My older 1971 edition doesn't show any loads for rifle cartridges loaded down to such a light bullet, but that doesn't mean they weren't intended as varmint rounds for an 8 mm. When I was a kid we used to load 110 grain bullets in 30-30 cases for plinking, and those loads had to be developed, as we had no manuals that started out with that low of bullet weight.

Somehow, I can't even imagine a 72 grain, 32 caliber, SPT-BT bullet.

It seems it would have to be all pointy nose and boat-tail with nothing in the middle!

You gotta post a picture of them!!!

My daughter borrowed my camera. Will get a shot of them ASAP. And yea that just about describes them. I thought maybe a varmit load for 7.62 X 39, or a 303, or 7.7jap. Like I said have bought whole boxes of stuff, mostly estate sales. even have a scope mount built on a 1911 grip panel.

Seems unlikely as most 32-20 WCF rifles are tube magazine, and the spitzer bullets would not be used in them.

I'm totally baffled as to what they might be for?

.32 Mag or .327 Mag?

Yeah... you could load 'em in .32 Mag or .327 Mag for rabbits and such, I guess. Right bullet diameter - but it's unlikely you'd get any reliable expansion at handgun velocities.

Hmmm..... maybe for a .327 custom Contender barrel? Maybe you could get enough 'Lil Gun or 2400 in there to get enough velocity to make it worthwhile.....

Spitzer, boattail? I'm thinking that it's a misprint. I can see a 170gr SptBt. not a 70gr. My .32acp cast bullet is very short, and is a 78gr RN.
Try weighing some and report back.....

Might be interesting to see if you could spice them up for 7.62x39 ammo and make them work in an AK.... but if they are just copper washed it kinda negates the idea of a ultralight AK round...
