**762x39 with Wooden Bullets**

SportsmansGuide is advertising 762x39 ammo with wooden bullets and stateing it is reloadable. However I learned from another forum it is Berdan primed though it does have a brass case. That lets me out.

Let's see, you learned this from another forum. Why not call Sportsman's Guide if you're concerned? Their ad states clearly that the wooden bullet ammo is boxer primed and noncorrosive; they should know.

I bought some junky 308 ammo from the Sportsman's Guide a number of years ago. About 20% were duds. Sportsman's Guide refunded my money and I kept the ammo so, if their 7.62X39 ammo isn't as advertised, I presume they would stand behind their product.

Now, what could one use wooden bullet ammo for? It could be used for very close range varmint control where one didn't want the danger of a ricochet. I've used plastic bullets for this before.

Those are probably blanks with wooden bullets for feeding in semiautomatics. Yes they are sort of reloadable , you pull the wooden bullet, dump out the powder add right amount of your preferred powder add your bullet , crimp ,it is reloaded. If these are cheap enough because they are blanks, then this replacing of powder and bullet is okay but if the cost is too high, why bother? To make it worth while the total cost would have to be well below surplus ammo after adding your powder and bullet costs.

If you check the AK-47 ammo section at arfcom, they've already discussed this.
The brass is made by Lapua, but there may be a problem.
There is hearsay- just hearsay, mind you, that the blank brass is factory seconds and military once-fireds.
Those that have tried using the brass had to do quite a bit of work to get it into spec, such as turning the necks to make them concentric.

The ammo is cheap enough that it caught my interest as well, but after reading about the issues people have had I'm just going to buy virgin brass.

Just something to think about.

Those finnish wooden bullet blanks are made from balsa wood and will completely turn into dust before exiting the barrel.
The reason why wooden blanks are used in finland is simple.
Our kalashnikov variants Rk62 and Rk95 do not have chrome lined barrels or chambers wich makes impossible to use plastic bullet blanks.
Plastic bullets would melt into chromeless chamber after few shots.

I think I bought some of the same stuff - Argentine if I remember - They made it right. Replaced it with Samson (by IMI)
