I picked up a Rem 788 in .308 to go with my .22-250 788. I notice the safety detent isn't holding the safety in either position very well. Doesn't seem to affect function or safety, more an annoyance than anything.

What kind of setup does Remington have in there? Ball and spring? Or dimple and spring force of the safety lever itself?

I don't want to tear it down until after deer season, just curious so I can pick up parts is all.

Thanks in advance :)

There is a little plunger and spring meeting detents in the safety. I most strongly recommend you fix the gun or have it fixed before using it. You could be injured, or if someone else is hurt, you could be open to a law suit, not to mention the trauma that would result if someone were killed or injured.

Jim thanks for teh info, now I know what to look for.

I won't be using it for deer season, just didn't want to mess with it in case I do for some reason need it. The ol Savage will pick up the slack :)

Thanks again
