My friend,who is an avid hunter is feeling the pain of the current ammo situation and wants to start reloading for the hunting season. I hope the wealth of knowledge on the forum can help him out. He has been using Hornady's Precision Hunter 7mm Rem Mag 162 gr ELD-X (2975 fps) and we hope to be able duplicate this round. He has managed to find LRM primers,Hornady's bullets,set of dies and he has the brass. The question is...Has anyone any idea of the powder used in the factory rounds or what other powders will give similar velocity and performance for this round? It looks like Hodgdon has a decent selection of powders for this round in stock for online sale.

I hope he's starting with plenty of once-fired brass. New 7 Mag brass has been scarce for over 2 years.

MWC1974,Thank you for your posted information.It is much appreciated as I don't have a Hornady manual and none of mine list that bullet. I passed this on to my friend and he ordered H1000 from Hodgdon online. I'll help him get started when it arrives.

With the 162 ELD-X I run just a hair over 68 grains of H1000 in mine at an avg of 2985fps; half inch groups or smaller at 100 yards, 5 round groups at 600 that you can cover with your hand. The Hornady factory load shoots nearly as well though I suspect that the velocity is less than advertised.
