How to convert 30/06 to 8 x 57 successfully? It is a bit of work but here’s how:
1) start with 30/06 cases
2) take decapping pin/neck sizing rod out of 8 x 57 resizing die
3) run cases thru die - use Imperial Sizing wax for best results
4) trim to proper length
5) reinstall decapping pin/neck sizing rod in 8mm die
6) lube inside of case mouth liberally
7) run cases thru die
8) re-trim if necessary

Make sure that no one with a 30/06 gets hold of this ammunition as it will have a .323 bullet in a 30/06 headstamped case and things could get really interesting if it is fired in a 30/06. I use a permanent marker and put 3 lines around the case body ti ID them as 8mm.

There may be issues with case necks splitting after 1-2 firings so you might want to anneal.

Get the RCBS 30-06 to 8mm form/trim die. You run the 30-06 case into the die, cut off whatever stick up out of the die with a fine tooth saw, and then you run them through your FL sizer.

I prefer to use military brass for this because it does not have a caliber in the headstamp.

I have Lake City 8mm brass..people are always wondering that Lake City made 8mm brass! I tell them it was a special order for The Kaiser that got cancelled due to WWI...
:)
(I don't tell them it was LC 30-06 originally)

Grafs.com has PPU, Nosler, and Remington 7x57 in stock....
Much better than reforming .30/06

Can I use that story with HXP head stamps?
