8+1 in Colt Defender, why not the same for Kimber?

So I see that the Colt Defender Plus offers 8+1 capacity. How or where is the extra room for the extra round found in the Colt, and why couldn't the same be done for a Kimber (ProCarry to be exact)?

Maybe it's the Kimber supplied mag.

I have a Pro Carry .40. Kimber's mag holds 8 rounds, but a Chip McCormick Shooting Star 10mm mag holds 9 rounds. Both mags are the same length, so I'm guessing the internals are different.

I think a Defender PLUS is a Defender upper on a Commander receiver. Takes the same magazine as a Commander or Government Model, one more round than the short butt standard Defender and others similar.

But isn't a Pro Carry a full length frame? If so, it will take the 8 round magazines... if you really want to. I trust the 7 shot more for defense, more spring and better follower guidance.

The Pro Carry is a Commander sized gun, the Defender Plus is the short top end. Kimber DOES make one, its a Tactical with the full grip and shorty top end. Take a look and youll find one.
Shoot well

I am begining to come to that conclusion also!! I took my IMI M5000 (Israeli 1911 Government clone) to the range with two brand new Chip McCormick 8rd "Match Grade" mags. One worked, one did not. Since I bought them over three months ago, but had not tried them out yet, they are out of warranty, and I'm SOL!! My point is that all my 7rd mags work like a charm!! No more 8rd or Chip McCormick mags for me!!

It will fit, but Wilson mags do protrude a bit (it's normal). You can get smaller base plates from Wilson, Brownells, or other places. They will reduce the profile, but it won't really be "flush fit" in the sense that a traditional 1911 mag is.
