You need a long screwdriver. Remove the butt plate and there is a screw deep in the lower hole that you have to remove. It is a standard slot screw, not a bolt.
Be careful. It is easy to crack the stock if you get the screwdriver wedged in beside the screw and put on pressure.
The actual surface of the pad has 2 slits that close up when you remove the screwdriver. They are invisible until you look for them. Look closely and you will see them. BTW use a round shaft screwdriver to remove the pad, a square shaft might work like a reamer and open up these "invisible" holes.
