870 buttstock removal

You need a long screwdriver. Remove the butt plate and there is a screw deep in the lower hole that you have to remove. It is a standard slot screw, not a bolt.

Be careful. It is easy to crack the stock if you get the screwdriver wedged in beside the screw and put on pressure.

OK, so how do you remove the butt plate or recoil pad?

Thanks, Monty

The actual surface of the pad has 2 slits that close up when you remove the screwdriver. They are invisible until you look for them. Look closely and you will see them. BTW use a round shaft screwdriver to remove the pad, a square shaft might work like a reamer and open up these "invisible" holes.
