Gents, I have a problem with a 870 Wingmaster in 20ga. I was hoping someone here might have some experience with. I let my son clean the shotgun after some shooting and he worked the pump with the barrel off and now the slide/bolt will not go forward and is jammed solid. I have tried to remove the fire control ass'y (couple of push pins) but cannot get it out of the firearm. Any help would be appreciated.

Narco, welcome to THR!! - I have a 20 ga 870 but have never encountered this before. Can you determine where the hang up is? I would probably seek out a local gunsmith to free up the bolt. Good luck.

Same thing happened at the range with a 12 gauge Wingmaster as well. I have no clue why he had it apart (it was firing fine), but he got the bolt stuck in the back.
He had to leave the range and head to the gunsmith to get it fixed.

Bent or damaged shell latches or action bars according to the Kuhnhausen 870 shop manual.

Guys, thanks for the quick replys. I was afraid I might have to take it to a gun smith. Which leads to the next problem. Finding someone in the Phoenix area that is good with shot guns. Thanks again.

Right on the money. I have several 870's and have encountered this problem a couple times. Two of mine when you remove the trigger assembly the action bars fall out. Not to hard to place them back in just a little cumbersome. Anyway after reassembly I encountered the same problem. Do not for the action. I did and it worked then did it again and broke the shell latch on the end of the right side bar. It seemed to take forever to find a replacment part. Take the two pins out of the receiver and carefully remove the trigger assembly. If the action bars fall out one or both sight down them and if bowed out. Gently flex to soften the bow.

Just to clear things up-- the action bars are the 2 rails connected to the fore-end that slide over the mag tube. The shell latches are staked to the side of the receiver internally and often become loose. Being staked is not a pre-requisite to the gun working correctly. They are held in place firmly by the trigger group even if they come unstaked. However, the little nib ends must be tucked in to the end of the mag tube for them to work correctly.

My guess is you had a loose shell latch and when your son re-assembled the gun, it was not correctly placed.
