While shooting trap last weekend, I started noticing that after my shots I would notice the trigger on my 870 slipping to the side. Everything kept working so I wasn't terribly concerned, but it sure was annoying. When I cleaned the gun I pulled out the trigger group and couldn't see that anything appeared to be loose or broken, but when I applied pressure I could make the trigger slip from side to side, and it seemed to wobble slightly as if the trigger pin doesn't fit snugly through the trigger.

Is this normal in 870s and I just hadn't noticed it yet (I was also shooting my Benelli Nova for the first time that day, so maybe it was noticeable in comparison)? Is it possibly a wearing out of parts, or more likely bad positioning of my trigger finger?

Can anyone shed some light of experience on the matter?

New one on me. Sounds like the pin the rigger pivots on is busted, but I'm no smith...

My standard response to things going awry like this is to get it to a decent smith and have it checked out.

Life's too short to take avoidable chances.

Well, I just got the gun back from the smith, and he says everything is okay and within tolerances. Perhaps I'm just too picky. Perhaps shooting 4 rounds of trap in 100 degree temps was addling my brain. I guess I'll go out again and see if my trigger technique is to blame.
