8mm mauser factory loads

S&B loads are pretty good. If you can find Hornady, they're 195-ish grains, but are supposed to be about 2500 fps. Wolf Gold is full loaded Prvi-partizan with 196 grains at 2500 fps. Prvi partizan loads market "8MM Mauser" are lawyer loads, but closer to useful. If you can find Prvi partizan market "8x57 IS", it'll be full-power loads. There are a few others out there, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

That's the main reason that I started hand loading. 200 gr Nosler Partition @ 2600 fps is a good game-getter. :)

We'll, I am going to guess since you say 2600-2800 fps you are looking for a 150gr full power load vs. a full power 196gr load.

Can't help a lot with Factory loads other than the Prvi and S&B below. S&B and Norma are the only full power loads that i know of. Norma is $$$$

For reference:
1978 Romanian surplus 155gr: 2,579 fps, 2,284 ft-lbs
1937 Turkish surplus 154gr: 2,853 fps, 2,784 ft-lbs. This is pretty hot stuff.
1953 Yugo surplus 196gr: 2,399 fps, 2,550 ft-lbs

Factory:
Prvi Partizan 196gr: 2,083 fps, 1,889 ft-lbs - pretty weak by comparison
S&B 196gr SP CE: 2,486fps, 2,689 ft-lbs - nice stout load

S&B works really well, kicks pretty good, and hits hard. Decent brass, but Prvi is better brass in my opinion.

I've been hand loading the Sierra 175gr SP at 2,600 fps and plan to go hunting with that load this year.

i have the prvi partizans 196gr that my chrono averaged at 2100. at 100 yards i had to adjust the sights to the 400m mark to get it on center. at 50 yards the 300m mark was on center... seems kinda ridiculous.

S&B is some of the better stuff out there. Data from Sport'sman's Guide:

8mm Mauser® (8x57 JS) Ammo 196 SPCE Muzzle Velocity: 2,592FPS Muzzle Energy: 2,923 FPE

It's hard to find at times, but THAT is the factory load I'd want in my 98K for hunting. The Yugo 50's vintage stuff is fun for target shooting, but it is corrosive and Berdan primed AND getting tough to find cheap.

Cablea's has the S&B in stock, good looking ammo but with a strange 'rebated' bullet I have never seen before.. illustrated on the box as such so it's no mistake.

S&B 8mm

In the DFW area all I am seeing in S&B are the SPCE. If I am not mistaken, S&B also made FMJ in the same grain and same FPS specs. I can no longer find the FMJ anywhere, even on line. Anyone know were to find them? I was thinking of taking my 8x57 to Africa next year and wanted to use the FMJ for Rounds 2 & 3 in the magazine.

Good stuff the Sellier & Belliot FMJ or SPCE.
I have shot hundreds of rounds of both types combined thru my K98s and Yugos.
Now gone sorry to report, needed cash.

I have used the S&B 173gr "rebated" bullet loads for my Win M70 in 7x57. It is excellent ammo, delivering 5-shot 3/4" groups at 100 yards. I'll be buying more at Cabela's...and it's cheap.

SAAMI really needs to upgrade their limits on 8x57JS.

Never happen with the number of old milsurps of unknown quality/condition versus the very small number of newer production guns. Same with 7x57.

Honestly, how long did it take before manuals began to list loads for the Marlin 1895 & bolt/SS .45-70 rifles? And the newer ones are out there in droves compared to vintage trap door guns.
