8mm Mauser suggestions

When I was in the market for an 8mm, M-48As were all over so I bought one.
I couldn't be happier with it. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is the arched bolt. I've never really been the biggest fan of straight bolts and greatly prefer bent bolts (not saying they're better, just that I prefer them). The somewhat-bent-but-not-quite bolt would be my only sticking point. Otherwise, it's a wonderful rifle.

Every now and then I'll see a K98 on GunBroker. It's only a matter of time before I buy one.

Nice rifle ghitch75. I just recently picked up another M48 on gunbroker. A good M48 can be like a new rifle if you find the right one. As for ammunition I have still have about 240 rounds of corrosive on clips that I need to use.

ghitch, your Hakim (or Llungman?) likes that high-power 150-gr Romanian stuff? Also, any tips on finding another mag? thanks!

Whats are the major differences between the VZ24 and the m48?

Although similar in looks, the VZ-24 is a full standard length Mauser action, and most M98 parts will fit.

The 24/47 and the models stamped M48 are based on an intermediate action, and are about 1/4" shorter than the standard M98. Many bolt parts will not interchange with standard length actions.
Both models handle the 8MM Mauser round very well.

I went through an 8mm Mauser period. Lot's of good memories.
I had a Spanish M43 that I liked. It's basically a K98 w/out the ??s of wartime production. I had a Russian Capture K98 that I liked also. Both were very well balanced and surprisingly accurate.

1950's 8mm brass surplus from yugo is still very cheap. I used Sellior & Bellot and Prvi softpoints when these were my backup rifles for hunting elk.

OK, how low are you guys tuning your gas systems on those Hakims? Even at 6 o'clock mine seems to cycle too much pressure, ESPECIALLY with that hopped-up Romie 150-gr. Can they be basically fully closed down to where it won't cycle? It closes turning clockwise, yes (rightie tightie)?
