I started reloading my own ammunition with the 8x57 for a K98 many years ago. I've become very fond of the 8mm Mauser round.

I've done some searching but couldn't find much on new 8mm bolts. Whose chambering them? Win 70, Rem 700, Savage, are the ones I've had good luck with and checked out. No 8mm.

Any suggestions for a new bolt in 8mm under $1000? Or should I just keep checking the used market.

I don't know if this helps. Title says NIB. Buy now or starting bid is $949.95. NO bid as of now. Less than 2 days for bid or buy.

Tikka still Chambers it's t3x in 8x57, and you can probably find the t3s in 8x57 on GunBroker.

My first port of call for a modern 8x57 would be the Mauser M18.

I couldn't find one chambered in 8x57 on gunbroker. Are they discontinued or am i not looking good enough?

No, your right I can't find one either. I used to see them on there when I was looking at other t3s and just assumed some would still be around.

If your interested in them I'll have my FFL buddy do a search and see if he can find one, he's good at that kinda stuff.

Gunbroker has pretty good filter options so that you can filter to specifically "Factory New" bolt actions in 8mm. Just make sure you check to make sure to mentally filter out the ones people marked as "new" but obviously aren't.

Looking at them myself, the only gun I see available in 8mm new is the Sako 85 starting at around $2000. For that price it would certainly be cheaper to just buy whatever action you want brand new and ship it off to ER Shaw to have it rebarreled in 8mm.

Realistically while there's absolutely nothing wrong with 8mm it's far more popular in Europe than here, so even for models where they still make it it isn't likely to be imported.

And honestly if you're willing to go used you can likely get a far better rifle for the money anyways. A "regular" model from the 50's that still reflects a "regular" used price would be a premium model of gun if made and sold today.

If you don't need brand new, there are untold numbers of sporterized 8mm Mausers out there. Some of them very well done, with safety and bolt clearing low scope and adjustable triggers. Stocks vary but are available if you don't like a '60s style.

The late Col Charles Askins was fond of 8mm and had every cartridge case then available necked up or down to produce yet another 8mm wildcat.
