Does anyone know/has anyone tried to see whether a 9 gauge nitro card will fit into a 10 gauge hull, and if so, does it fire without issue? To be more specific, I'm wondering whether a 9 gauge circle fly nitro card will fit into a 10 gauge cheddite hull.

I'm thinking of putting together a non-plastic load - my thinking is that a 9 gauge card should obturate better than a 10 gauge card, but if it doesn't fit in the case then it's a bit of a non-starter.

Thanks in advance

What os the 9 ha OD?
What is the 10 ha ID?

Are you using brass, plastic or paper hull?

Shouldn't be that hard.

Circle fly lists lists the OD of a 9 ga nitro card as 0.815 inches, and a 10 gauge at 0.791 inches.

Cheddites are plastic hulls.

You are wanting a card to cover powder?
For max volume and no plastic wad.

Possibly, take any old hull and cut the plastic off.
Place 9 ga card on top of brass cup.
Use a dowel rod (sized to fit) to push card into cup to form.

When loading shells, flip card.

I used some thin, craft felt cut into circles for a snug fit.

Yes, less for case volume and more to have a plastic free cartridge. If there were a bioplastic gas seal or wad I would use that in a heartbeat.

Hadn't considered forming a domed card, I might look into it if the 9 gauge card doesn't fit.

A 9 gauge card would be more convenient though, as I'll be able to assemble a cartridge using stock materials. I just thought I'd ask here first instead of buying a whole load of them to check whether it can be done.

Just for grins and giggles, is there a use for gauge sized cards and wads outside of shotgunning? I've never heard of 9 and 11 ga. I have heard of 4 and 8 ga, and read about a 2 ga punt gun.
