911 Caller With Gun in Home Invasion

While not necessarily S&T, I had previously provided links to this recording to several of my, or my GF's women friends, who were hesitant to consider self-defense strategies for themselves. There is something very powerful about hearing this and it may be one of those "eye opening" moments for friends or loved ones who don't think they need to protect themselves. I have had some very positive responses using it.
And, my responses to those who wanted more info after listening to it wasn't to immediately suggest getting a firearm either. I started with the fact that glass on an exterior entry door is easily defeated, that retreat to a secure area and calling 911 should be part of the overall plan, and that consideration should be given to what happens when the intruder breeches your defenses.

HIcarry,

Education is an excellent strategy to encourage and enable others to better protect themselves. That's why we are here in S&T, that's what THR is all about, and it is what THR jefe Oleg Volk is all about too. See http://www.a-human-right.com/ , if you are unfamiliar with his photographic work in support of RKBA.

Mr. Lapin,
I am familar with Oleg Volk's RKBA work, and of recent, some of his other "stuff" as well. Man, I want his job!
As you mention, education is the key, but sometimes (at least in my life) it is difficult to get those individules who you care about, or who need the education the most, to listen. All too frequently you run across the "it's not going to happen to me" attitude or "I live in a nice neighborhood" or "the police will protect me" arguments as the reasons not to make changes. This recording very clearly demonstrates many of the fallacies of the above arguments while at the same time demonstrates the effectiveness of planning for self-defense, even if the odds of being attacked are relatively low of. As I think someone else on this board said so well, "It's not the odds that matter, it's what's at stake."
Thanks for the good work here. As you can no doubt tell, I am relatively new, although I do lurk much more than I post, and enjoy the community and the wealth of information this forum provides.
Aloha,
