"2 sought treatment after gunshots

A Fountain man who awoke to the voices of robbers in his home Sunday night shot both men before they fled, getting away with an iPod, police said.

The two gunmen suspected in the attempted robbery were at Memorial Hospital today where they had gone for treatment of gunshot wounds, Fountain Police spokesman Sgt. Jess Freeman said.

No arrests had been made as of this afternoon and investigators had not released the names of the suspects.

“Chances are they will be (arrested)” Freeman said.

Cody Buckler, 19, said he was asleep at his home at 2144 Fountain Mesa Road when he heard voices in his living room shortly before 11 p.m.

Buckler said he overheard someone telling a child in the house that he was a police officer. Buckler said he crept down the hall and saw two men wearing masks, gloves and hats. He said he went back to his bedroom and grabbed his 12-gauge shotgun.

Buckler said returned to the living room and saw one of the men at the front door carrying out his flat-screen television. Buckler shot at the man and hit his arm, and the man fled out the door.

Buckler said he saw another man coming up the stairs and shot at him. That man ran back downstairs and escaped out a basement window, Buckler said.

“I just didn’t hesitate,” Buckler said.

Buckler said he didn’t know the men, who escaped with an iPod.

Both men were armed with semiautomatic handguns, Fountain police said.

“I’ve never had anybody do this to me before,” said Buckler, who’s lived in the house for a little more than a year.

Buckler lives with his girlfriend, her young daughter, and her brother and sister, and he wanted to protect them, he said.

Shortly after the incident, Fountain police issued a bulletin asking area hospitals to be on the lookout for men with shotgun wounds.

By 5 a.m., both suspects had checked into Memorial Hospital, which notified Fountain police, Freeman said.

Freeman said the man shot in the arm underwent surgery. Freeman said he didn’t know the extent of the other man’s injuries, but he did not require surgery.

Fountain police don’t plan to pursue charges against Buckler at this point, Freeman said.

Colorado’s “Make My Day” law allows residents to use deadly force to protect themselves from home intruders. "

Now, I thought home invasion was when the BGs forced their way in using violence and/or threats. This looks more like burglary of an occupied dwelling.

But the prospective victim and family are safe and the suspects caught.

There's getting to be too much of this. There was even a home invasion out here in the county a couple days ago.

Robbers used a stun gun on a Peyton couple during a home invasion Thursday night, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.

At about 8:15 p.m., a woman came to the door of the home in the 12000 block of Crystal Downs Road, claiming she was having problems with her car, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene.

The woman, who had a stun gun, and two men armed with guns forced their way into the home. Sevene said the robbers stunned the couple and took an unknown amount of money and jewelry.

A 5-year-old child who was in the home was not hurt. Sheriff’s deputies are continuing their investigation."

It used to be quiet out here. There is no completely safe place anymore.

I don't think so. They invaded his house and tried to make off with his belongings when everyone was still there, even communicating with a kid. Armed no less.

There is no completely safe place anymore.

Isn't that the truth, unfortunately.

are you serious? "Make My Day" law?! REALLY!? wow.

becoming more and more common in home invasions.

it was so common here a few years back that the local PD convinced the paper not to report it anymore.

Don't people have a giant dog in there house anymore? Wow, talk about luck, I'm just curious as to why the guys didn't just take the guys into custody? They had consistent wounds with both people as well as weapon type....
Oh well, I guess they suspect they will stay in once place and not try to escape.
