Four people are in custody – including a 16-year-old boy – in connection with a home invasion robbery late Tuesday at the Rockwood Apartments in Bear where they held the four occupants at gunpoint.
New Castle County police spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said a man was accosted in the parking lot about 10 p.m. by four assailants who pistol-whipped him, stole his wallet and forced him to take them to his third-floor apartment.
After the victim took the assailants to his apartment, they forced their way in and held him, two women and a child at gunpoint.
Navarro said a person who witnessed the parking lot assault called police, who arrived within minutes.
One of the assailants, meanwhile, saw the officers through a window pull up outside and asked the victim where was the back door. Because there was no other exit from the third floor, the foursome fled to the balcony, where the victim locked the door behind them, trapping them.
The assailants jumped to the balcony below and burst into a second-floor apartment. Officers heading up to the third floor heard screams coming from a second-floor apartment, broke down the door and found the four assailants hiding under “trash and debris,” Navarro said.
The suspects, who are all from Philadelphia, are now being charged.
