I just picked up a Beretta Cx4 Storm today (a carbine, yes, but it uses 92 magazines). There were a few standard capacity mags there, and I tried them each in turn. Two 15 rounders worked just fine; inserted nicely and positively locked the action open. Another 15 rounder and a 20 rounder did not lock the action well, and the 20 round magazine could be easily pulled from the weapon without operating the mag release.

All of the mags seemed to have the same amount of wear (none were in excellent shape, but all *appeared* serviceable). Any ideas as to what the problem might've been with the bad 15 and 20? Any tips on what to look for during a visual inspection?

And finally, does anyone have any good sources for preban 92 magazines? Or any recommendations for types (commercial aftermarket, milsurp, etc)?

I recently purchased a number of 15 rounders from CDNN Investments. Some were original factory, in excellent condition for about $50 each, and some were identified as "New Asian Military Contract" for about $25.00 each (I am going on memory on the prices here, might be a little different).

The factory mags have been flawless, and the "Asian" mags have been ok, with only a slight tendency to not lock the slide when empty. Still trying to figure that one out, but I am only using them for range mags, so I am not too worried about it.

I have seen CDNN advertise the 20 round mags, they may still have some.

(I sure hope the AWB sunsets, so we can get good factory mags for a decent price again).

I just got a Storm also, so Beretta 92 mags have been something I have been looking at. Most of the cheapy 15, 20, and 30 round mags are hit and miss, much more miss than anything else. Sometimes, they can be made to feed well after you play with the feed lips, sometimes, nothing can be done about them.

The 20 and 30 round magazines seem to be made by Western, I have a 1911 20 round mag by them which I have never been able to work correctly. There is a reason these are pre-ban but less than $20. So being able to pull it free is something to be expected from these mags.

I would try to stick with 15 or 17 round mags, less play, less chance of bad bad bad products. The Asian Millitary mags seem to be overall good. Eagle mags look ok, but tend to not be okay either. Other than that, you have standard ten round mags left.

Check out www.cdnninvestments.com or www.cheaperthandirt.com or www.fourfourmag.com if you want to try ordering some extras. Good luck!
