I see no more need to have a car registration law than a stereo registration law or a bicycle registration law or a gun registration law.

I agree with you, but that doesn't mean it's smart to not show up or pay the fine when the Court orders you to show up or pay the fine.

El Rojo,

We have had several calls for an officer to be flogged, fired, etc. for placing handcuffs on a person that had an arrest warrant.

Maybe you want to take a look at what Jeff White and Golgo-13 do for a living... :scrutiny:

I seriously doubt that handcuffing grandma was needed to insure the safety of the arresting officers.

Should she have been searched? No cuffs, just put her in the back of the car? Cause I'm betting even a 97 year old could pull a gun and pop Officer Friendly in the back of the head.

..........apparently several important pieces of information in the case have been left out : the arresting officer determined the walker in the back seat of the elderly woman's car was also unregistered and the serial number had been filed off ; a spring loaded comb over 4" was found in her purse, and an open container of "Bosco" was in plain sight on the passenger's seat. I am surprised the arresting officer didn't call for backup !:uhoh: :D

...and cuffing her hands in front of her was going to stop that how, exactly? Pretty weak rationale, there.

I swear to god, this "officer survival uber alles" movement has bred more mistrust and suspicion between Joe Sixpack and Johnny Law than anything else, including the War on some Drugs.

Once upon a time, I wanted to be a cop; now I wouldn't take the gig if the salary was a million bazillion dollars a year. The "Fort Apache, Suburbia" mentality would drive me bughouse inside a year.
