I just picked up a sporterized mauser in 243 with a 98 action. Thought it would be a good little project gun since it need a little tlc everywhere.

Shot it for the first time last night and it dropped 3 shots under 3/4 inchwith an old 3x9 Bushnell Banner. I was pleased with the way it shot.

Need to refinish the stock, touch up some blueing and going to mount a different scope on it.

My questions is - The trigger guard is the newer style hinged floorplate model, not the military style. The latch that holds the door shut is broken and the return spring for the latch is missing. Looked into buying a new trigger guard assembly, but that was a little more than I wanted to spend, so I am looking for parts or someone that has an assembly that they want to sell. Gun parts has the latch for the military model, but not the newer model.

Assuming it is a standard length M98 action, you can usually find bins of parts at larger gun shows. You might loose the commercial latch, but save some $

Also, check for Interarms Mark X used parts for a cheaper commercial floorplate at e-gunparts.com ($82.95 complete)

if its the "in the bow lever release" you can look up donmarkey or gunparts2112 on gunbroker, between the two of them you should be able to find one that will work. if its the fn style lever bobs gunparts had some a while back. if all else fails make one its not that hard. all you need is a good vise, a drill, a file & a piece of scrap iron. for the spring just buy a spring assortment pack from your local hardware store

Is the plate and latch like the ones on a Win. model 70? Thats kinda what I'm picturing here, based on looking at my M70 and K98. If so, may be cheaper to go to Numrich's and order the spring and latch part for the model 70 to use, instead of getting a part listed for the Mauser. Seems kinda common that the same part, for 2 different guns, will vary in price, based on the maker of the gun, how common they are, if they are collectable, etc. Sometimes the part is cheaper, even when identical, if the gun it goes to is cheaper, more common, etc.
