What's your favorite load for a cast 147 grain Flat Point? I'm using an old Hi-Power and a Glock with a Lone Wolf barrel. I have W231, Universal, Unique, W452AA, and AA #7. I've had very good results with jacketed bullets. Not so good with 125 cast RN & FN.

My favorite load with a MBC 147gr is with HS-6. I've also loaded with 231 with 3.2-3.4gr at 1.135 OAL and liked the results. it's a light recoiling load, and very pleasant to shoot.

I have been shooting 147 grn BearCreek moly coated cast bullets over 3.6 grns of Unique in my M&P 9mm Pro for IDPA and I'm happy with it. I get decent accuracy and it is a nice soft shooting load. I haven't done a lot of experimenting with different loads, but this one works pretty well. I keep Unique powder on hand as it works so well in the 20 and 28 gauge shotgun loads. I also like it in .38 special, and moderate .357 and.44 mag loads.

I have some Titegroup that I may try in my 9mm IDPA loads just for the fun of it. The only reason I would switch is I have an 8lb container of TG that I need to find a good use for it. It is going to have to do pretty good for me to switch from the Unique load that I am currently using.

Thanks for the timely thread guys. I've been reloading .45acp for a couple months and feel that either my loads are becoming more consistent or I'm improving at the range, (maybe a combo of the two). Anyways, I'm considering reloading 9mm using Penn's cast 147's.

In my research, bullseye powder isn't mentioned very often. However I wouldn't mind working up some loads using BE, mainly because I already have it. Comments?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

The Alliant powder guide lists 4.2 of Bullseye with a 147 XTP @1010 fps and 32900 PSI.
I have loaded 3.3/BE with a cast 147 which gave me 926 fps out of a Browning HP and 3.6/BE gave me 1022 fps. From an accuracy standpoint Longshot and WSF were better.

AA#5 has been my favorite for MBC & Penn 147 FP.Did you get the right size bullets for your barrel? Some of my barrels need .358's and others need .357's.It makes a big difference.

I have two 9mm barrels that I tried some 125gr RN from Mid Atlantic and after several trial loads the best I had was 4.5"-5" group at 25yrds rested, plus after 15 shots the leading was already pretty bad. They were sized to .356. Out of my XDM with a Storm Lake barrel they would get 2" groups easy enough.I slugged those two barrels and they were .3565-.3570 ( the storm Lake barrel is .3550),so I ordered some more that were .357(they acually measured an average .3575)and retried those same loads. The groups shrunk right down and leading went mostly away.I now shoot mostly .358 bullets out of them(.38 special bullets, unless I can get 9mm bullets that are .358)because .357 is still a little small, but does shoot ok.

I had accuracy and leading issues from oversized PT145 barrel (.455" groove diameter) and 18 BHN MBC bullets.

Since ordering .456" diameter bullets was impractical and I wanted to shoot the same loads in my .451" diameter barrels of M&P45/1911, I ended up ordering softer 12 BHN bullets sized to .452". Even with lighter target loads, accuracy was restored and leading went away.

If you have oversized barrel and/or have leading issues with target loads, Missouri Bullet offers 147 gr 9mm bullets in softer 15 BHN that should address those issues.

When I shot lead bullets in 9mm it was a cast 147 gr. with 3.3-3.4 gr. W-231 for about 890 to 900 fps - a nice soft shooting load.

I took Lyman's 38 special bullet 358477 and sized it to .356" to shoot in my 9mm. Made with #2 alloy, the average of 10 bullets was 146.9 grains.

I load this with 6.0 grains of blue dot. As bizarre as the cartridges look, it feeds and fires flawlessly in my P89.
