Hey everyone,

I've really been enjoying shooting with my boyfriend and am looking to get a 1911 of my own. The thing is I'm pretty specific on what I want.. I want a 9mm 1911 that's officer size-ish. The EMP is out because I want something that I can put Hogue rubber grips on. Price is also an issue...

So.. any suggestions?

Kimber's a good choice

A friend's wife shoots Kimber 1911s in 9mm and is a scary-good shot with them.

I've had a few Kimber .45s and believe they are a great value in a 1911. So...that's my vote. Try out a Kimber in 9mm and tell us what you think.

Welcome to the forum Kristen:)..........

Para is another one who makes commander size 9mm 1911's though I've never owned one.

I have a Dan Wesson full size 9mm 1911 and it's top shelf.

I used to own an STI Ranger2 model that is a comander sized 1911 9mm. It would not lock the slide back on empty, and would sometimes double feed (or fail to extract) which might have been that the extractor just needed tuned. It was accurate though.

I would check out STI. 1911's in 9mm are a good choice offering low recoil, great ergonomics, and that wonderful trigger.

Look for a used Star BM. It's a bit smaller than a 1911, but well made and a hoot to shoot. They run about $250.

Downsides: its single-stack mags aren't plentiful, and the gun shouldn't be dry fired.
