IMO a 9mm is a must have, the only ammo that is cheaper is that of .22. So even if its not your first choice for HD or SD for practice its unreplacable. its defintely not the worst choice for a SD or HD gun. Its the military's choice calibre so that speaks on its effectiveness and has been around for a long time. just my .02 cents.

I would agree that it is a musthave for a good collection. I dont know about the effectiveness factor since the military is using it. I would say it is an effective caliber when you use the proper ammo which the military generally is not.

The 9 is just fine!

The 9mm is an essential part of any handgun collection. If money is ever tight and you still want to practice, break out the nine and it won't break out your bank  !

I've gotten along just wonderfully without one of those "little girl" guns. I have no use for such a thing. :barf:

I'm embarassed every time I buy .38 ammo for the wife too!

9mm is cheap to shoot. After that I just cannot fall in love with it. It is just boring to shoot after awhile.. Until I got my EMP I did not have a gun which I enjoyed shooting 9mm in. Even so I get bored with it. The EMP is SWEET though. In .45 GAP or .40 it would be an excellent carry gun. Now the 9MM fans will tell you how great the 9MM is and how it's as good as the .40 or .45.
I won't argue, I just want more ummph and don't see carrying a smaller caliber in a gun that will chamber a bigger one. I don't want to get shot with a +P 124 Gr. HP either. I guess it would be better than a stick. :neener:
Yea, everybody should have one. :)

There are alot of 9mm classics - BHP, P7M8 , 92fs, P226 & even the Glocks...Yeah, IMO, they're a must have ;)

A few are nice to own, mostly classics:

-- P38
-- BHP (Inglis) or FN..
-- H&K P7

Then perhaps:

-- CZ-75
-- Beretta 92
-- Walther P5
-- All others, you decide...

:scrutiny: tell me thats a joke. If not do you buy a box of 500mag to prove your manliness?

I have 2 9mm a Ruger p-85(my first pistol!) and a Hi Point Carbine and i love being able to buy cheap ammo to blow thru them. 9mm is a fine defensive round also.

I just got my first 9mm. It will be here tomarrow. Its a Taurus Pt-111 Mil Pro

GOt a killer price on it too!! I cant wait to start my practice with a 9mm. My 45acp XD is nice but spendy to shoot.

This will be my new carry gun i think. compact and light, packs enough punch for my shot placement to take down a threat!

IME most people will rant and rave about how good the .45 is, but when they go with you to the range, they bring the 9mm because the ammo for the .45 costs too much :).

Just my .02,

Gelicious....

If your milpro is half as good as mine has been to me, you will love it to death.

9mm is the most common hangun ammo in the world. If nothing else, you need one just to be able to take advantage of this. I have two 9mm's and I just can't find fault with them. It's the universal cartridge.

Did someone say : Classic ? ... My West GermanSigSaur P228.

Like the wise men above said - it's cheaper to shoot nine than .45 , so even though I actually have more fun shooting my .45 ( p220 sig ) , I shoot the 9mm much more. That makes it more accurate in my hand , faster to reload , Because it's a bit smaller it's more likely to be on my belt than the .45 is.

No one ever who dislikes 9mm ever volunteers to stand downrange of them.

My main carry gun is a .45 most days but at times I carry one of them little "girly guns". They've been know to kill more than a few people deader than hell even with the FMJ rds and with today's excellent hollow points they can be downright hazardous to the health of anyone shot with one.:p

ive owned 9mm's as well as 45acp's i miss them all and wish i had never sold them. everyone should own a good 9mm at one time or another.

The 9mm cartridge really is a great round. It's easy to shoot, cheap, accurate, and fun. What's not to like. OK, so don't carry it if you don't feel comfortable with it, but for regular range use it's an awesome cartridge. All those guns chambered in 9mm, so many options!

I've standardized my handgun ammo mainly to 9mm and .45. The 9mm round is just so versatile, I still dunno why people hate on it so much.

Hope that was a joke, or sarcasm...usually indicated by a :) or a

Anyway, welcome to THR. Did you catch the part about civil discourse?

Discussion is encouraged; ideas are welcome. Berating or belittling is inappropriate and unwelcome.

BTW, have you ever heard of projection? :)
