Looking for a good commander size 1911 in 9mm, is there one that is good enough to be a carry gun?

My friend...seek the ultimate 9mm...the .38 Super Colt Automatic!

:neener:

It's the difference between a Chihuahua and a Pitbull. Sure they both bark. They both have four legs...one has "teeth" the other has teeth and fangs! Handloaded, the .38 Super is in the identical ballistics as a .357 Sig. Here is the link:

Don't thank me...just send me a box of .38 Super for a reference fee. :)

Too bad theres not alot of factory ammo around for that, and 9MM is much cheaper too....

I have a STI Trojan. It is full size, but I do believe they offer a commander length. IT is a superb shooter.

I have felt the Para's in my hand, just too small. Still looking for a commander size. Would like to find an STI so I could put it in my hands. Any close to the Austin area?
I have heard you can convert a Colt XSE .38super to 9mm, do you use the same mags?

It's easier to convert a Super 38 to 9mm as the shorter ejector of the Super 38 will work with both calibers, versus the longer ejector of the 9mm. Besides the barrel set-up, you would also need 9mm magazines and a slightly lighter recoil spring. A nice set of high visability adjustable sights would help, but not really a necessity for short range work. So if you starting with a 9mm Commander platform, then you will need a Super 38 barrel complete, recoil spring, magazine, and ejector. It makes for a fun conversion package, and gives you two guns for a lot less money.

The STI Ranger II is a true Commander sized 1911 - 9mm, 40, and 45.

STI Guardian is officer sized, available in 9mm.

There's always Wilson, Ed Brown, LB, et al., that can make you exactly what you want.

New to me Kimber Commander length 9MM. :) The EMP is very nice as well.

I have a Kimber Tac Pro II pretty much exactly like the one Walkalong has.

Runs very well, and accuracy is just superb. Main problem I've had with it is choices for 9mm 1911 mags are somewhat limited and finding 9mm mags with bump pads that work with the mag well is especially tricky (the mag shown in the picture of the Kimber factory mag, the rest of mine are Colts without bump pads). (Not that you need bump pads, you just really have to man up on the base of the magazine with the heel of your hand during fast mag changes.)

It carries pretty well in a Kramer IWB, as well.

Really like the EMP, but finding them locally for a good price is not the easiest. Right now the cheapest I can find local is $1100.00. They have to be cheaper some where else.
