9mm crimping curiosities

Wowza, that's WAY too much crimp. Back that die out and start over, just do it like the instructions that come with the die say ... thread it in on a seated round until you feel resistance, then go 1/8 turn increments until you get rid of the bell and see a teeny tiny shiny ring around the mouth.
 
.373" to .375"??

Thats .005" to .007" below SAAMI spec for a 9mm.

I don't care who your ex-spurt is, he is wrong.

And especially wrong with the plated bullets the OP ask about.

Yep, according to the late Hayden B. Oliver, of Little Rock. Master gunsmith and bullet manufacturer. Measured at the absolute terminus of the case mouth and only extending as little as humanly possible.

I use that taper on three different pistols for both jacketed and lead and get excellent results. But if this is wrong and dangerous I am sorry to give anyone bad or dangerous data. Thank you H.B.O. wherever you are.
