Not really where I wanna be
Took 2 of my 9mm's to the range today to wring them out a little bit. I've shot the 1911 one other time but the G19 is only hours old.

I shot the G19 quite a bit making sure everything was kosher with the Gen 4. It functioned flawlessly with factory and self defense ammo. I did have 2 stove pipes with my reloads. I'm not surprised my reloads weren't 100%. It's a light charge of Unique with a 124 grain plated bullet.

My initial impressions of the Gen 4 G19 are very good. That pistol just points itself. I love the slightly slimmer grip vs. my Gen 3 G17 (which was sold to fund the 19). The 19 is every bit as accurate as the 17. With just a G19 and a G26 left in my Glock collection I think I have the 2 best 9mm SD handguns on the market.

Now the 1911....well what can I say. That pistol is top notch in my opinion. It really is a joy to shoot and recoil is almost nonexistent. The trigger is excellent and the grip is perfect for my hand. I was mowing down steel plates @ 20 yards without a problem. I shot nothing but my reloads in it and function was 100%.

My guess is that the 19 will handle the light reloads just fine after I get a couple more rounds down the pipe. But hey, any day at the range is better than a day at work!

Nice pistols...I don't own a Glock but noticed the large trigger area and the squared guard..Is that space for gloves in the Austrian winters? I'm not sure I'd like all that area. I imagine the squared guard is for off-hand support..

The Glock 19 is a great little pistol. I shoot mine as good or better than any other Glock as well.
I'm using a 147 plated bullet at about 900 fps for a target load. Shoots great out to 25 yards.

I am laughing in my head so I hope everyone finds my humor as funny as I do.
"You mean to tell me you can put a Glock and 1911 together and the don't bicker?" Haha
Great looking pistols. You've got great examples of both worlds.

Nice looking guns. I really like the 9mm 1911. I have a Baer PII that has become my favorite semi auto. Light recoil spring, light reloads, almost no felt recoil.

How much slimmer are the Gen 4 grips? I have a Gen 3 34 that is very accurate, but feels like a block in my smallish hands.

Mad, the trigger guard area looks larger because the trigger is in the rear position. When it's reset it's comparable to the 1911.

robctwo, My Gen 3 G17 was just a tish too big for my smallish to average sized hands. Since my brothers brother-in-law wanted the G17 more than I did I sold it to him. I did some comparisons at the gun shop and the M&P, XDm and the Glocks all felt pretty good it my hand in their smallest grip configuration. The deciding factor was the trigger....The G19 blew the others away.

I have no doubt that the other manufacturers make fine, reliable weapons but it just so happened that I bought a Glock first. I've gotten very used to the trigger and handling of the weapon. One other thing I like about the Glocks is how short the slide is.....the M&P is just a little taller but the XD is just plain huge....it makes the gun look really "clunky".

bruzer, it's like 2 teenagers hanging out together. They fight each other for my attention but when it comes right down to it they both serve their intended purpose perfectly.
