I put together a 9mm AR upper and was hoping to use a standard lower with a 9mm Endo mag. I finally got everything in the mail and put everything together. I put the upper on the lower I plan to use and inserted the Endo mag with the bolt locked back. Released the bolt and it does not close it hits on the magazine.

I am kind of second guessing myself at this point. I know I probably should have just bought a dedicated 9mm lower. Has anyone had this problem? When I ordered the BCG it said it was compatible with the Endo mag. After seeing this does not work I pulled up my BCG and noticed it says modifications may be necessary to work with Endo mag.

I guess I could break out the Dremel tool and start removing material from the magazine but that seems a bit crazy at this point so far.

The upper and BCG are from ar15discounts.com and they are their house brand NBS. My lower is an aero precision. The barrel I added to this mess is from BCA.

What bolt (brand/type) are you using and which version of the Endo Mag are you using? Pictures would help.

There are two types of Endo Mags: one for blow back bolts (Colt and Glock style) and one for the CMMG radial delayed blowback bolt.

Another thing it could be is the extractor is off (if using the straight blowback version) causing the bolt to hang or it could be hitting the feed ramp.

Sorry for the horrible picture. It's the best I can take for some reason. If you are holding the magazine so that it would be oriented in same way as it would be in a rifle. The right hand side or the side in which the cases eject has a scar where the bgc has ran into the magazine. It's not noticeable in the picture. IMG_20200323_171826250.jpg

I guess could remove the material from the top right side of the magazine and try it again. I just dislike removing material from something where I can't put it back. CA legal Endo mag was about $50 I would hate to ruin it if I can avoid it.

I have tried taking several pictures. On my phone I can not see in the picture where the BCG has ran into the magazine. For some reason things just don't want to cooperate today.

There is the link to the bcg. As I mentioned earlier it now says something to the effect that use with Endo mag could possibly need modification. That was not posted on the description when I ordered the BCG. I guess I will get out my modification tools tomorrow and see what happens. It doesn't work now if I ruin it I guess I go another route.

Tough to see in the photo but it looks like too much striking area for me to want to modify the magazine, were it mine.

If you insert the magazine without fully locking into place, is it possible to cycle a round into the chamber without the carrier striking the magazine?

Have you tried the 9mm insert in another 5.56 magazine?

Todd.

The emdomag people have several videos about fitting an emdomag to your gun.

I posted several pictures a while back about how I cut down a regular emdomag to fit the cmmg guns. It's just plastic. It shaved easily.

It's the restricted state mag. Not supposed to be able to open it up. I imagine it's glued or something. I don't think it's hitting the 556 mag just the top of the insert. I didn't have much time yesterday to play with it. After time to think and read hopefully I will have some time today to look at it.

I would have sworn the endo mag website had a video on fitting the magazines before use....

Tried going there?

I have watched several of their videos and read through a lot of stuff on their website.
None of the issues I have seen so far cover the problem I am having. This afternoon when I get home I will give it another go. Yesterday I was being pulled in a million directions while trying to figure it out. With everything going on I am starting to question if I was doing something stupid.

So my BCG and endomag are not compatible with each other. Pretty irritated about the whole situation but whatever. I guess I will be going with a new dedicated 9mm lower or trying a Glock mag adapter. I don't really want to use an adapter but I think the way things are going it would be my fastest route if it actually works. Not sure what adapter or lower I would go with at this point. My BCG is supposed to be compatible with Glock mags. I will probably be into this for a lot more money than I originally planned but I guess that's the way it goes.

Try taking a photo of just the subject without other stuff in the back ground. In your first photo the camera focused on the powder hopper in the back ground, the second it focused on you hand (notice the hair detail) and in the third it’s focused on that Phillips head screw on the left side of the mag.

Not a lot of help but I have one that hit the bolt on my 9mm AR too, I already use an insert with regular 9mm AR mags that works fine, so I didn’t go any further.

On most phones you can force them to focus on what you want by tapping on the screen where you want it to focus. Can you take a picture with the mag and bolt in the gun to show what part of the bolt is hitting.

It would be great if you could borrow a 9mm bcg from a neighbor to try. In my private mail to you I said I had the same problem and it was an incompatable bcg. I had to replace it. Good luck with yours.

Two of my neighbors that I know of have ARs. When I told them I was putting together a 9mm upper they both looked at me funny and started asking questions like they had never heard of a 9mm AR. So with that I am guessing borrowing a new BCG is out of the question.

No big deal a little setback here and there is a learning experience. Most everything around here is shut down so trying to find a lower is going to be on hold for a while. I am not sure about a mag adapter yet. I could probably find one online and order some Glock mags and be done with it. I did see one from PSA I'm thinking about ordering. Only catch is I live in California. If I get something that doesn't lock the magazine in I have to go featureless. I really don't like the features ARs I have.

You could probably sell your bolt and buy a compatable one cheaper than buying an adapter.

I've been thinking this a lot the last day or so. I'm probably going to put this project on hold for now. I have another project I am working on right now as well. If I can source what I need to finish locally it would be nice to get it done now and focus on the 9mm later.

Call Endomag and talk with their people. They are very accommodating and helpful. Right now I'll bet they have all kinds of time to speak to you about the problem. They may save you quite a bit of money, who knows. I went through this hassle too.
