I'd be open to other options, those 2 are just the ones that seemed to get the most suggestions from my "real life" friends who are gun owners.I dunno, I voted for the .22 but I guess if I was thinking about what it is can I shoot -right now- ammo availability would weigh heavily in my decision. Maybe consider a wider window of selection based on that.
I'm not concerned about the shortage of 22lr for two reasons, mainly that I think it will end eventually and even at gouger prices its still cheaper than just about any other ammo. I can get by with just my shotgun obviously as the ammo is plentiful for it (although I can't seem to find reduced recoil buck locally) and probably always will be. The big downfall is I'm SOL shooting during the winter because no indoor ranges around here allow shotguns, one of the bigger reasons I'd like another option in the safe. Think of it as buying my "toys" before we have a kid and I don't have any money for more "toys".
