I have both the SP101 and 940 in 9mm. I am looking at purchasing some Ranch Product Moon Clips. I need some advice on which de-mooning tools anyone has found usefull for the 9mm's, and if you have any other knowledge of moon clips that fit both revolvers.

Sorry I can't help you out, but saw 9mm SP-101 and had to post as it's one of my favorites. Do the Ruger clips fit the Smith? Before I bought the Ruger I was planning on buying a tool for taking the empties out but have had no problem with doing it by hand so I assume Ruger clips are easier to do this with than the other brands. Let us know how the Ranch Products clips work out for you.

I use the screwdriver shaped demooner. I bought it from Moonclips.com for my 625JM. Works great!

461,

The Ruger Factory Moon Clips do not fit the Smith 940. The Smith Factory 940 Moon Clips do not fit the Ruger. The Ranch Product Moon Clips fit both. They Ranch Product is shaped like the 940 but has a larger opening and allow use for both guns. I have had the SP101 for a couple of years and love it. I just purchased the 940. I would like a moon clip that fits both for the ability to use one kind and keep some moon clips loaded.

Joe,

Do you have experience with the 9mm Demooner tool??

rnovi,

Do you have any experience with the 9mm Demooners?

Thanks for the replies Steve

I have a 9x19 SP-101 that is sitting until RIMZ polymer moon clips are available for it. After using the RIMZ on M610 and M625 revolvers, I am not using any other kind of moon clips.

I have some moon clips I thought were originally for SP101, and they fit my 940 just fine. They are designed so that the cartridge is placed in the middle and forced outward into the clip, which has about the same diameter as the cylinder, if that makes sense.

Farscott,

I contacted the people at moonclips and they stated they would not be producing the 9mm RIMZ because they were too expensive to make for a low demand.

Sounds like we need to bug the manufacturers to produce some more 9mm wheelies. I'll take another SP and a 940 for the cause.

You did see Taurus' new 10mm wheelgun, yes?

No idea whether it will be added to CA's list, but still.

I'm still waiting for over half of the new Taurus stuff I saw at last years SHOT to be submitted to California, thankfully I chose not to hold my breath. I will say that if it is ever available to me I'll buy one. If 9mm is good then 10mm is definitely better, when does the 11mm come out? :)

Hmm. That is not encouraging. I may have to give the Ruger clips another try.

I once had a 3" 940 and liked it OK. Later I had a 3" SP101-9mm and liked it better. Now I have none. I tried a 2" Taurus 905 and liked the revolver OK but the Taurus moonclips are absolutely horrid and I refuse to mess with them. Pretty good gun, pretty awful moon clips. Traded the gun. Decided anything I want done with a small frame revolver could be done with .38s or .357s but would probably buy another SP if they were to re-issue it.

Edited to add: Actually I'm sure I would buy the 9mm SP101 again if they were to offer it.
