Anyone have suggestions for a small 9mm that I can carry easily in a pocket, with a pocket clip or with a pocket holster? Looking for a companion to my Glock 17 and a substitute for my sp101 carry gun. Wary of the Glock 26 because it does not seem small enough to carry easily. If you carry one and find it a compfortable easily concealed gun, I'd like to hear holster adn carry recommendations.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

John

You will find a Walther PPS to be basically an anorexic G26. Only thing smaller that I would consider in 9mm would be a Rohrbaugh.

Your going to hear the Kahr PM9 right away. Can't say I like the little gun. It's small, but she's a beast to fire. About as bad as my Kel Tec P3at in .380! I am sorta drawn to the Kel Tec p11 or pf9, If I was going to pocket carry 9mm, it'd be one of those two. Can't make up my mind which one I like better. (ones smaller the other is thinner)

I have a Kel-Tec P11 which I like very much, but forget about pocket carry. It may be small enough, but the shape makes pocket carry impractical. It prints way too much.

Kahr MK9 in a superfly holster. The all steel makes it a little heavier to carry but it is well worth it when it comes to shooting it.

unless we're talking about cargo pockets, if you want 9mm and fit in a regular pocket, look at the PF-9. P-11 is slightly larger with more capacity.

The Kel-Tec PF-9 is small, light and reliable. It's small because of the single stack Mag while the P-11 has a double stack Mag. (although the P-11 isn't much bigger) The PF-9 weighs under 13oz empty.

Late last year I got a Kel-Tec PF-9, specifically for pocket carry. I keep it in a Desantis Superfly holster, w/o the big front flap. Works like a charm. Being so lightweight, recoil on the PF-9 is snappy, but not that bad if you use a Hogue Handall Jr slip on grip.

I took an Uncle Mike's holster and sewed a cut piece of a foam mouse pad to it as a backer. I added a second layer to thicken the trigger and grip section of the gun to flatten out the entire package.

This hides printing and makes the holster very "stickable" in an average pocket so it doesn't pull out when drawing the gun.

Admittedly it is a full house in a snug fitting pair of jeans but it looks like a large wallet (which in itself could be a source of trouble :)) but it minimizes printing and makes the PF-9 a true pocket carry gun.

I carry a Kel Tec PF-9 in a Blackhawk Size 4 pocket holster. It was printing so I double face taped an old percussion cap tin inside the bottom corner of the holster to give it some bulk in the empty space next to the barrel. As mentioned above, the slip on Hogue grip is a plus. Kel Tecs are a little rough when you get them. You'll probably have to file the ridge off the inside of the trigger guard or experience pain. Had the same problem with my 380 Kel Tec P3AT.

Agreed, the 26 is a beast but, the big advantage is has is that it is easily one of the most shootable subcompact pistols out there and since you're familiar w/ its manual of arms from your 17, it would be a very simple transition

I have a Kahr PM9, and I'm not going to pretend it doesn't have some bite. I added a Hogue Handall Jr. grip and it made a world of difference. The recoil, combined with the polymer bumps on the grip, tore a blister in my hand. Haven't had a problem since the Hogue addition.

I'm a former PM9 owner. I was never bothered by the recoil, but I did have some reliability issues, and would be reluctant to go back to one again.

Check out the Walther PPS, I love mine.
Some pictures of the PPS in holster HERE, pics were more showing the IWB holster, but the PPS is there with some change for scale. It may be a bit heavy for pocket carry, but any carry gun is a study in compromises, and the PPS came out on top when I assessed my options/budget.

Walther PPS is a nice gun, smooth, reliable. Can't ask for a better CCW unless you live on the Caymans...

+1 on the Walther PPS, although it may be a bit (just a tad?) large for pocket carry. I guess it might depend on how big your pockets are.

Kahr PM9, in a Mika pocket holster. It will be tight in jeans pockets, but carries well with minimal "printing" in larger pockets, e.g., those of cargo pants.

Any time you have a little gun that fires a serious cartridge, you are going to have some bark and bite. But I find it far less punishing to shoot than a lightweight snubnose revolver.

I used to have a Keltec, but traded it in on a Kahr P9 covert. Same basic size as the Kahr PM9, but with a 1/2 longer barrel. The Keltec was the harder-firing gun. The Kahr is much thinner, more concealable, and ergonomically, it absorbs recoil much better. I generally carry it in a SmartCarry rig, but have just thrown it in my front pocket on several occasions.
