I have a taurus tcp that i'm looking to trade for a 9mm and i'm around a $299 range. need to be able to buy a paddle holster for it and relativly small/or light. ammo capacity not so much a big deal but more the better i guess. been eying the taurus 709 slim but kinda wanting to go with a different brand. the tcp is a good gun but just don't like carring guns in my pocket lol. any ideas?

MolleMan,

$300 is a pretty low price limit if you'd like a new 9mm, and it's really narrowing down your options, can you bump it up a little higher?

If not, a gun like a 709 does make it an excellent choice, and would also be good for IWB carry, where thinness is good, and in the category of new guns, it's about as close to your desired price range as you'll find. Another lower priced 9mm is the Bersa Thunder UC 9mm. It's a bit thicker gun (double stack magazine), but it's still a fairly compact pistol, and unlike the single stack (magazine) 709, the Bersa is a double-stack, SA/DA, hammer fired, de-cocker, W/safety. Those would probably be the two lowest price new 9mm's. For OWB carry (in your preferred paddle holster), you might want to look at the Bersa.

If you bumped your price range higher ($450 to $670 range), the Walther PPS 9mm, and Kahr K9, P9 & CW9 have a similar size and thinness as the Taurus 709, and are equally good for IWB carry (if you ever wanted to carry that way). but as I said, they are currently well above your current price range. The CW 9 would probably come the closest to meeting your price criteria, but I doubt that you'd find one for less than $450, even as some of the lower priced gun shops.

I know my price range is probally rediculous but my local gun dealer has ALOT of new and gently used 9mms at that price which without posting the makes and models makes it difficult. not familiar with IWB or OWB abbreviations (fairly new to the site). I carry a 1911 and for obvious reasons its heavy and expensive to be puttin wear and tear on. so a cheap, reliable 9mm is kinda what i'm shootin for.

IWB=Inside Waist Band
OWB=Outside Waist Band
Are you talking $299+tax+fees total price
or $299+tax+fees+trade value of current Taurus?
Either is kind of low, and without knowing what "gently used" pistols your dealer has it is hard to make a recommendation.

my carry is owb. and price is $299 before taxes and trade-in value but i'm currently lookin at the bersa thunder perviously recommended and I see alot that i like, external hammer, safety, slide lock, compact, available paddle holster, and high ammo capacity. plus bersa seems to be a respected name brand. so far its all the qualitys that I want. my local gun dealer says he can get me a new one for right up under $300. might have to take that route

go with the glock,check summit gun broker call them and see what they have. its worth the wait if you have to....you'll be getting a much better pistol

Proud new owner of a Bersa Thunder 9mm ultra compact pro. picked it up couple of hours ago. very impressed and happy with it. has alot of features and for 300 bucks u cant beat it

I'd go with a p64, you can almost buy 2 for your price. it's 9mm mak, however. It's what I carry, all steel, about the size of the Bersa, and very accurate. Most of them are in almost new condition.

Buy one for $170 and spend the other $130 on ammo, mags, holsters, etc. or get set up to reload 9x18. :rolleyes:

edit: Missed your post above. Hope you enjoy the Bersa!

The rebate is back on the S/W Sigma pistols and i've seen them going for $249 - think it was Buds. Probably $279 at Academy.

I find sixteen rounds and a trigger safety to be kinda reassuring. ;)

If you're not against owning used European guns, you might want to look at the Makarov caliber pistols. The 9x18 Makarov ammo is usually some of the least expensive on the shelves. There's plenty of it, and the guns can usually be found for less than $300. :what:

the bersa is cheap off the bat yes,but with a glock you can buy cheap parts,cheap magazines,tons of holsters etc. the bersa is ok but you can't log on and find parts just anywhere and the mags are expensive.

the bersa comes with 2 mags with 13+1 capacity, external hammer with decocker, true double action, picatinny rail, nice bold white dot sights, external safety and slide release on both right and left side, all in a compact frame. and even comes with a cool bersa keychain with ur gun key on it. glocks are nice but I think u pay more for the glock name than anything. i've shot glock 9s and 40s and there alright, never could see what all the fuss was about. I'm more of a believer in autos with hammers, just personal perference i guess.

Kel-Tec PF-9. You won't regret it. Flat, light, 9mm under $300. It's perfect. Compare it to a Glock any time. There is no Glock as light and thin.

I love my PF-9, but would like to get a chance to try out the Bersa. It's unlikely I'd actually buy it to replace the Kel-Tec, as there is no reason to, but I bet it's a nice-feeling pistol, especially if it is of the same bloodline as my Thunder .380.

u know i didn't have any knowledge of the Bersa Thunder 9 till it was recommended on this thread and got to looking into it and I really couldn't see myself any happier with anythink else, it really has alot of features and is very comfortable to me. can't wait to burn up some more ammo with it to really see how it does
